Word For Today When the Word of the Lord is Rare

Word For Today
When the Word of the Lord is Rare

What if each night you took a look at your day
And asked what was the Word of the Lord today?
Learn to recognize God throughout your day
He promised He would never leave you
So doesn’t it make sense God is speaking to you
The question is not did God give me a Word for Today, but am I listening
God does not need to work on His ability to speak to us
We need to work on our ability to hear
Remember
When you hear the Word of the Lord, ACT
Be Doers of God’s Word
Your life should be the illustration of the Word of the Lord
PS …  Don’t make this hard
Much of the Word of the Lord to us is simple
Like show the Fruit of the Spirit
Demonstrate love and peace

When the Word of the Lord is Rare

The time between the Old and New Testaments
is called a time when the Lord was silent.

Maybe you have heard someone
say, “The Heavens are Brass”.

This comes from Deuteronomy 28:23…

God told His people about the wonderful
way He wants to bless them if they keep
His Word, and in contrast, if they do not
obey they will live a life of curse.

The sky over your head will be bronze,
the ground beneath you iron.
Deuteronomy 28:23

Meaning in our disobedience our prayers
will not reach heaven, and more troubling
is we will not hear from God.

There are times in our lives it seems God is silent.

Like in the time of Samuel when
“the Word of the Lord was rare”…

The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli.
In those days the word of the LORD was rare;
there were not many visions.
1 Samuel 3:1

So what do you do when the
Word of the Lord seems rare to you?

God had stopped speaking to Eli
because he did not listen to the Lord.

The first thing in hearing
the Word of the Lord is…

Humbly Repent

If the Word of the Lord has come
to you and you have not listened,
why should He speak again?

The second things is
Samuel had not yet known
the Word of the Lord…

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD:
The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
1 Samuel 3:7

How do we know the Word of the Lord?

One of the simple answers is read God’s
Word, but reading alone will not be enough.

Study God’s Word so you gain understanding.

Timothy knew the Scriptures from infancy (2 Timothy 3:15)
and Paul challenged Him to study,
to show himself approved to God by
rightly handling God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15).

How wonderful to have the Word of God
in print so we can read it at any time.

It becomes very clear that God
wants to speak to us daily.

God visited Adam and Eve in the cool of the day.

Jesus got up early in the morning
to meet with the Father.

Both the Old and New Testament tell us…

Man shall not live by bread alone but by
every word that come from the mouth of God.

If God is speaking to us every
Day, how do we hear His voice?

Samuel's first instruction came from Eli.

Samuel kept going to Eli.

We need the gifts of apostles, prophets,
evangelists, pastors, and teachers, they are very
helpful, but the Lord wants to speak to you directly.

Like Samuel we too need to say…
'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'

So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down,
and if he calls you, say, 'Speak, LORD,
 for your servant is listening.'"

In conversation there is listening and telling.

There are the talkers and the listeners.

True listening is not just hearing, but opening
the mind to understand what is being said.

This takes work because things we hear
trigger our thoughts and can cause us
not to understand the speaker.

Throughout the scriptures we see the writers
telling us the heavens declare God’s glory.

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities —
his eternal power and divine nature —
have been clearly seen, being understood from
what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Romans 1:20

Where ever we go…

 Whatever we see…

 God is speaking to us.

Your day is filled with not only
the voice of God, but illustrations.

Seven times in Revelation and
four times in the Gospels we read…

“He that has ears to hear let him hear”

If God is working all things together for
the good of those who love God then
everything in your life God is speaking through.

So start with a positive attitude.

Just because you do not understand
what you see and hear does not mean
God is not saying something to you in it.

What if each night you took a look at your day
and asked what was the Word of the Lord today?

Learn to recognize God throughout your day.

He promised He would never leave you so
doesn’t it make sense God is speaking to you.

The question is not…

Did God give me a Word for Today?

But…

 Am I listening?

God does not need to work on His ability to speak
to us we need to work on our ability to hear.

Remember the third thing is…

When you hear the Word of the Lord…

 Act!

Be doers of God’s Word.

Your life should be the illustration
of the Word of the Lord.

PS…Don’t make this hard.

Much of the Word of the Lord to us is simple.

Like show the Fruit of the Spirit.

Demonstrate love and peace.

Scripture Reading

1 Samuel 3:1-11 NIV

3:1 The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.

2 One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place. 3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was. 4 Then the LORD called Samuel.

Samuel answered, "Here I am." 5 And he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me."

But Eli said, "I did not call; go back and lie down." So he went and lay down.

6 Again the LORD called, "Samuel!" And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me."

"My son," Eli said, "I did not call; go back and lie down."

7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.

8 The LORD called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me."

Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, 'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10 The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!"

Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."

11 And the LORD said to Samuel
