Jesus’ Words in Red
God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world
Jesus did not say the world was not condemned
“Whoever does not believe stands
condemned already”
He said…
“God did not send his Son into the
world to condemn the world”
Jesus is saying the love of God has made a way out
Jesus is not talking about a prayer of forgiveness
But a life change
“Whoever lives by the truth comes
into the light, so that it may
be seen plainly that what he has
done has been done through God."
Living by the truth means believing and living what God’s
Son has said
“Whoever believes in him is not
condemned”
“God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world…
whoever does not believe stands condemned already”
Jesus said He did not come to condemn the world.
Jesus is speaking in legal terms.
In verse 19, He says…
This is the verdict:
The Verdict is the world is already condemned.
The judgment of death is already upon everyone in the world.
The picture is this…
Jesus has come into the court room.
He lights up the room and every deed every thought is
exposed.
The purpose is not to pass sentence because
the sentence of death is already in place.
The purpose is to give the world a choice.
The choice is…
Continue to love the things you do in the dark.
Or, the opportunity to come into the light where
you will not do the things that are shameful.
Jesus also defines light as truth.
In the dark, we lie to ourselves and others
by saying everything will be alright.
The wages of sin is death.
There is only one way out of this court room alive.
That is believe in Him.
Whoever believes in him is not
condemned.
In Jesus, all our deeds and thoughts are exposed.
We see because He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Truth, believing in Him is believing in the truth and living
it.
The problem according to Jesus is very clear.
“Men loved darkness instead of light
because their deeds were evil.”
Our problem is we love the things we do.
We will give good reason; our reasoning
is like putting a blind on the window.
We cannot hide what we do from God.
Our reasoning and self-justification does not
change the fact that we are condemned already.
Jesus is saying there is a way out of condemnation.
God sent His Son into the world to save the world.
The light and truth Jesus reveals is the
only way to escape eternal damnation.
“But whoever lives by the truth
comes into the light,
so that it may be seen plainly that
what he
has done has been done through
God."
Jesus is not talking about a prayer of forgiveness.
Jesus is talking about a change of living.
“Whoever lives by the truth”
Living by the Word, the Truth of God.
When we live by the truth…
“Comes into the light”
What is revealed by the light is we are living
for the love of God not the love for the world.
“So that it may be seen plainly that
what
he has done has been done through
God."
Jesus is saying His Father, God, is giving the world the
opportunity to escape the condemnation of the world.
Jesus is not saying the darkness we live in will be excused
Or, ignorance.
Jesus is saying there must be a life change.
He has revealed the truth for life change.
The life change is…
We live by the truth and come into the light,
so that it may be seen plainly that
what he has
(we have) done has been done through God."
How are you doing life?
Through “you” or through “God”?
Where do we get our acceptance
through the World or through God”?
Scripture Reading
John 3:16-21 NIV
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but to save the world through him. 18
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands
condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only
Son. 19 This
is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead
of light because their deeds were evil. 20
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for
fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But
whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly
that what he has done has been done through God."
