Purpose Love is the Basic Purpose

Purpose
Love is the Basic Purpose

Our basic purpose is not restricted by time or place

Our purpose is…

"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
… And … 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

Purpose…

The reason for which something is done or
created or for which something exists.

Ever lose sight of your purpose?

I have more than I want to admit.

It usually happens when I have been working
on a project longer than I expected to.

When I am not where I want to be, maybe
it is Attention Deficit Disorder kicking in
and I just want to move on to something else
or get back to things that meant a lot to me.

I experienced this when I bought a foreclosure
at a sheriff’s auction for Marty and Crystal.

The house was a bigger project than I ever imagined.

Three months turned into a year and I was tired.

I put many things on hold
that I felt a strong calling to.

As I removed moldy walls and floors,
I had to remind myself of my purpose.

The purpose was not the renovating of
a house it was providing my son and
family a house they could make a home.

It was not a financial investment for
me, it was an eternal investment.

An investment in Marty and Crystal, their
children and the generations to come.

This project reminded me again
that our purpose can be fulfilled
in any place and any time.

The end of my life is closer than the
beginning so time is very important.

I don’t want to waste a moment of it.

For this reason you and I must know our purpose.

The purpose you were created is
something you can fulfill every day.

You and I don’t have to wait till we get enough
money, time or a title to fulfill our purpose.

The most basic purpose we all share.

I have discovered that it does not matter if I
am pastoring or a patient in intensive care

In Africa or a nursing home

Leading a big rally or working in a factory

In church or home

Our basic purpose is not
restricted by time or place.

Our purpose is…

"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
… And … 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

Scripture Reading

Matthew 22:37-40 NIV

37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'  38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'  40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
