Growing Up Hindrances to Growing Up Excesses

Growing Up
Hindrances to Growing Up
Excesses

How do you deal with problems?

The Apostle Paul said…

“I can do all things through Christ
which strengtheneth me.” Ephesians 4:13 KJV

One of the greatest hindrances to growing up is excuses.

An excuse is an attempt to lessen the blame
attaching to (a fault or offense): seek to defend or justify.

Excuses - we have all made them and we have all heard them.

We play the blame game.

“And he said, "Who told you that you were naked?
Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
The man said, "The woman you put here with me —
she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."
Then the Lord God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?"
The woman said,
"The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
Genesis 3:11-13

We say we are not good enough.

Moses said to the Lord, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past
nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."
The Lord said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute?
Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord?
12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."
But Moses said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it."
Exodus 4:10-13

We are lazy

“The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside!"
or, "I will be murdered in the streets!"
Proverbs 22:13

“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.”
Proverbs 26:12-16

We procrastinate

Don't put it off; do it now!
Don't rest until you do.”
Proverbs 6:4 NLT

Here is a good one…

We all use ‘we are too busy’

The Parable of the Great Banquet
Luke 14:15-24

I have just bought a field,…
I have just bought five yoke of oxen,…
‘I just got married”

We could go on and on with excuses in the
Bible or talk about the ones we have heard.

Watch children when they don’t want to do
something or they get caught doing something wrong.

The “I do not want too”, “I can’t” and the “It’s not my fault”

Are the signs of immaturity.

We may make it sound better as we
get older but the results are the same.

What needs to get done doesn’t.

When you and I let other things take up the
time we need to get things done we make excuses.

If you were asked about your service
to the Lord would you give an excuse?

If you were asked about your prayer
life would you give an excuse?

If you were asked about going to church, studying God’s
Word, sharing the gospel would you give an excuse?

If you were asked to give an account for
your day would you give an excuse?

When in our mind we don’t want to or we feel
doing something will be hard, we have a choice…

Make an excuse or become determined to do it.

When it comes to knowing God
and His will for us the Bible says…

Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”
Romans 1:19-20

There is an attitude that removes excuses.

There is an attitude that demonstrates maturity.

It is the attitude Paul demonstrates in Philippians 4:13…

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” KJV

Paul had an attitude that did not murmur
or make excuses and he reminds us to…

“Do all things without murmurings and disputings:”
“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”
 Philippians 2:14-15 KJV

Kids justify their behavior with excuses.

We show signs of maturity when
we develop an “I can do” attitude.
