Grow Up
Irritation
I am not sure I could count all my
pet peeves but there are a lot of them.
They all have one thing in common…
They cause “Irritation”.
“The state of feeling
annoyed, impatient, or angry.”
I am sure you too are a pet lover
and have some pet
peeves.
Be honest you don’t love your
pet peeves so get rid of them.
Children love pets.
When I was growing up I had snakes, turtles,
frogs, fish, and as I grew older I got a dog.
I also got some other
pets…
PET PEEVES
I have known people who were so angry
their pet peeve was another person breathing.
Maybe your pet peeve is not
that bad but you still have some.
Our kennel of irritation is not funny,
it is real.
If you have ever been in a cast you
know how miserable and itchy it can be.
You can’t reach the itch
so you can’t scratch
it.
It may be very little, but it has consumed
all your mental and emotional energy.
Yes, it has controlled your life.
Our life changes when our pet
peeves control our feelings.
The itch of impatience and anger…
Causes grinding of teeth, pulling hair, breaking
things and language that I will not use in this devotional.
Our pet peeves live in people.
They make it hard to love even those closest to us.
Pet peeves destroy relationships.
So how do we control our pets?
You and I need a pet sitting service.
We need a place to send our pets so
we can get along peacefully in life.
It just so happens there is such a place.
God’s Word tells us to…
“Cast all your anxiety
on him
because he cares for
you.”
I know Peter is talking to the youth and is
talking about bigger cares than pet peeves but…
If God can take care of our bigger irritations,
He can certainly take care of our little pet peeves.
So what is God’s advice?
Take your pets to Him.
Be humble, you too, irritate others.
Be self-controlled.
Your pet peeve is only an excuse, get over it.
Resist the provoker of your pets,
the devil loves to rile up your pets.
So resist the devil and act out your faith
and the devil will leave with your pet peeves.
Be honest you don’t love your
pet peeves so get rid of them.
Scripture Reading
NIV
Ephesians 4:15-16
15 Instead, speaking the truth in love,
we will in all things grow up into him
who is the Head, that is, Christ.
1 Peter 5:5-11
5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are
older.
All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one
another, because,
"God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble."
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand,
that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he
cares for you.
8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him,
standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the
world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal
glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore
you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever
and ever. Amen.
