Growing Up
Who is Your Teacher?
For most of us the media has become our teacher
Who is your teacher?
Jesus said, I am the way the TRUTH and the LIGHT
How much time are you spending with the TEACHER?
Have you noticed that you go to church on
Sunday and learn God’s principles for life…
Then Monday through
Saturday the things the media is
communicating gives us a different point of view.
Media is a means
of communication
i.e. radio, television, newspaper, the internet.
The media is reaching to influence people.
I don’t think most of us think about it when we turn on our
devices for entertainment or information that there is an
agenda.
There is a belief system that wants you to
think like them behind every broadcast.
I remember in English class being
taught the meaning of “bandwagon”.
Media uses the “bandwagon” principle to get us to think
that their message is fashionable and popular and you are
the only one not on the wagon enjoying it.
The media has been very successful at shaping our minds.
I many times will hear someone say they saw
a good movie and I will ask, “Why was it good?”.
I get answers like the graphics were great, the
actors were incredible, but very seldom do I
get the message was profound and full of truth.
Maybe one of the saddest things about humanity
is we really don’t care about the message.
God tells us that it is not good for unwholesome
words to come out of our mouth.
But when I turn on my
television
cursing comes across as cool and acceptable.
I could mention so many subjects like sex, family, violence,
etc.
that give us an unwholesome view.
that give us an unwholesome view.
After the 2016 presidential elections, it seems every-
one was talking about how the media missed it.
There was a bias views said the majority
But those who had that view were wrong.
My point is this…
If we are to grow up
and become mature according to
God's Word who gave us life and numbered our days…
God's Word who gave us life and numbered our days…
We need to recognize there are “winds of doctrine”.
“Then we will no longer be infants, tossed
back and forth by the waves,
and blown here and
there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning
and craftiness of men
in their deceitful scheming.”
The winds of doctrine are simply stated "beliefs".
It is more than some world religion or cult.
Beliefs are blowing around us every day.
You and I are affected by those winds.
If we look at the time we are
in the wind of the world view.
Verses the time we are in the
influence of the wind of the Holy Spirit.
The time we are influenced gives us a clue to why we so
easily get tossed around in our Personal Belief System.
easily get tossed around in our Personal Belief System.
I want to be informed.
I want entertainment
so I turn on the media.
But I realize I must be very careful.
I need to make sure I am strong
in my convictions of God’s Word.
I cannot let my soft side say that is ok
and I cannot let my hard side pick fights.
You and I need to make sure we
have a good foundation in God’s Word.
We need to give more time to the teaching
of God’s Word by the 5-fold ministry.
We need to limit our exposure to the winds
of this world, the doctrines of the media.
Many of us do not know who our teacher is because
we don’t think about why we believe what we believe.
This is so true when what we believe is so
acceptable by the world, the “bandwagon”.
Who is your teacher?
Jesus said, I am the way the TRUTH and the LIGHT.
How much time are you spending with the TEACHER?
Nothing is more important than your faith.
Because what you believe will
shape everything you do and are.
Fear and doubt reveals the stability of our faith.
They reveal the effects of the wind of doctrines.
Scripture Reading
Ephesians 4:11-19 NIV
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be
prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to
prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be
built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the
Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of
Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth
by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the
cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking
the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that
is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every
supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its
work.
17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that
you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.
18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God
because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.
19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality
so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.
