Growing Up
Into the Head Christ
So how is the growing up process going?
How close are we getting to the Head, Jesus Christ?
Buying clothes for kids can be expensive,
Because they grow out of them so quickly.
It all happens so fast.
One day I am holding
a baby in my arms
and then holding their babies in my arms.
It seemed like yesterday when I sat on the
floor with my oldest granddaughter, Kylii.
She had not learned how to walk yet.
I don’t know how it happened, yet
it happened before my very eyes.
She has grown up.
She is about to turn
16 and is now
taller than me and so beautiful.
For years she has planned to
go to Paris for her 16th birthday.
Just the other day she told Sandy
and I her plans have changed.
She now wants to go on a mission
trip and work with children.
WOW!!! How they grow.
One fun thing kids like to do is
put on mom’s or dad’s shoes.
It is so hard for them to walk in,
yet there is
something inside of
them that wants to be grown up.
The Bible tells us we are to grow up.
It is not growing out of our clothes and into new ones.
It is not growing bigger feet to filling adult shoes.
It is more than a new mark on the
measuring stick against the wall.
The Bible tells us the goal of growing up
is to grow up into Christ who is the Head.
Many of us do not think our body fits our head.
Children like to think they are
smarter and bigger than they are.
As I get older, I think young thoughts
but my body cannot keep up.
When we think one thing and
do another there is a problem.
To grow up into the Head of Christ, we
must learn how to put on the mind of Christ.
We become the thoughts of Christ.
When my body is healthy and strong
it accomplishes the things I think about.
The Scriptures says…
“Instead, speaking the
truth in love,
we will in all things
grow up into him
who is the Head, that
is, Christ.”
“In all things”
Maturity comes as we submit
everything to the thoughts of Christ.
We must remember that there are a
lot of ideas of what we should look like.
There are two things we get from the Head of Christ…
Love and Truth
There are many ideas of what
love and truth are in the world.
The sign of maturity is when
our lives speak truth in love.
So how is the growing up process
going in my life and yours?
How close are we getting to the Head, Jesus Christ.
Scripture Reading
Ephesians 4:14-19 NIV
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth
by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the
cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking
the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that
is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every
supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its
work.
17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that
you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.
18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God
because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.
19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality
so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.
