Trust

Trust

Ever been let down?

Then you know what it is to lose trust;

And regaining it is harder the second time around.

This morning I woke up to an old and familiar song.

The simple chorus kept running through my head.

“Trust and obey for there is no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey”

Trust - what a challenging word.

Trust - can be very complicated.

In order to trust you have to have confidence
that what you trust in is able to do what you expect
and will do just what you expect.

I trust in God and believe He is able
but He may not do just what I expect.

When God does not do things
the way I expect them to get done
trust becomes an issue.

What you and I expect from God
characterizes who God is to us.

Separating God from who He is
and what He does is impossible.
God Himself describes Himself as “I am”.

So when God does something different
then what you expect
your trust is challenged.

  There is no doubt that when God doesn’t do
what you thought He would
you are faced with unhappy feelings.

The questions
“Does God exist?”
and
“Do I really know God?”
begin to enter our minds.

Fear of offending God may also complicate things
as you question God and what you believe about Him.

Most people’s fear, keep them from sharing these thoughts with others,
but every thinking person has these thoughts.

So what is the answer?

Recognize that what your perception of the way God is
will always be clouded.

Back up to the basic truths about God.

Yes, figuring out God is complicated
but don’t let your trust become complicated.

Sometimes we need to get back to
simply trusting Him no matter what!

I know that sounds too simple,
but the only way to be happy
is to trust and obey Him.

If you haven’t realized that already - you will!

Scripture Reading

Proverbs 3:5-10 NIV

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the first fruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.
