Above All
Jesus Above Popularity
John Lennon
1940 - 1980
John Lennon said the Beatles were more popular than
Jesus.
How you see Jesus will make a difference in where you place
Him.
John did not realize Jesus is above popularity.
Over the weekend I had two words on my mind
and I looked at these two words in my concordance.
Above All
I started my search with Psalms 138.
God has established His Name
and His Word above all things.
David wrote this 3000 years ago,
so I have to ask myself the question,
Is it still true;
Is God’s Name and Word still above all?
In 1966, John Lennon said
the Beatles were more popular than Jesus.
When you do a Google search on:
“What is the most popular name?”
You find popular names given to babies.
One site says
that Muhammad is second to
Jack in Britain.
Another gamer site said
Muhammad is the most popular.
Is popularity above all?
Paul writes to the Ephesians and says,
The name of Jesus is not
only above all things
but it will be above all
things in the age to come.
David said because
His name is above all
he gained boldness
and
was stouthearted
when he called out to God.
Paul said
God had placed everything
under the feet of Jesus
for the benefit of the
church.
The question we have to ask ourselves is,
Do I see God’s Name and his
Word above all?
David and Paul saw
the name of God above all
to mean power;
Power to rule
and power to defend.
Popularity comes and goes but:
Jesus has been given a name
above every name
and that at His name
every knee shall bow
and every tongue shall
confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord!
This is why you and I can find security
in His Name and His Word.
Jesus rules over all!!!
I hope you enjoy this worship song.
Scripture Reading
Psalm 138:1-3 NIV
I will praise you, O
LORD, with all my heart;
before the
"gods" I will sing your praise.
2 I will bow down
toward your holy temple and will praise your name
for your love and
your faithfulness,
for you have exalted
above all things your name and your word.
3 When I called, you
answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted.
Ephesians 1:15-2:1 NIV
15 For this reason,
ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus
and your love for all
the saints,
16 I have not stopped
giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
17 I keep asking that
the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the glorious Father,
may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,
so that you may know
him better.
18 I pray also that
the eyes of your heart may be enlightened
in order that you may
know the hope to which he has called you,
the riches of his
glorious inheritance in the saints,
19 and his
incomparably great power for us who believe.
That power is like
the working of his mighty strength,
20 which he exerted
in Christ when he raised him from the dead
and seated him at his
right hand in the heavenly realms,
21 far above all rule
and authority, power and dominion,
and every title that
can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And
God placed all things under his feet
and appointed him to
be head over everything for the church,
23 which is his body,
the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Philippians 2:5-11 NIV
5 Your attitude
should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very
nature God,
did not consider
equality with God something to be grasped,
7 but made himself
nothing, taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human
likeness.
8 And being found in
appearance as a man, he humbled himself
and became obedient
to death — even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God
exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 that at the name
of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on
earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God
the Father.
