Romans 1 Revealed

Romans 1

Revealed

Description: Bible Love Notes: Third Oldest Sin: You Can Run, But You Can't Hide

Hide and Seek in the dark can be scary and fun

But don’t play Hide and Seek with God

Righteousness is not a game

Moses warned the people

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:23

BUT

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 1:9-10

Romans 1:17

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is REVEALED

Adam and Eve could not hide their sin, King David could not hide his sin

Uncover the Gospel and find righteousness

Before your sins are uncovered and revealed

"The righteous will live by faith."

Revealed

Kids, at night, love to play hide and seek,

Kick the Can and Ghost in the Graveyard.

Under the cover of darkness and behind objects,

kids are trying not to be revealed by “Your IT”.

Playing any type of Tag,

the one who is “It” tags another person

and cries out “Your It”.

In real life, you do not want to be “It”.

Hiding started at the beginning of time.

God and man walked together in the wonderful

Garden He had created for them.

But when that was not enough,

Adam and Eve disobeyed God and hid.

King David sinned by taking another man’s wife

and having her husband killed.

When God revealed to the prophet, Nathan, what David did…

He told David a compelling story of injustice

which enraged David to the point of anger

to put the unjust person to death.

It is at this point, Nathan says

 “You are the man!”

in other words “Your It”.

Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man!

This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes?

2 Samuel 12:7-9

Like Adam and Eve, David was given so much from the Lord

and yet disobeyed the Lord and went into hiding.

Sin and disobedience causes all of us to hide.

In Romans 1:17, we read…

“righteousness from God is revealed”

The word “reveal” means to take off the cover; to disclose

In the Gospel, the Good News of God

we find the covers being taken off.

Romans 2:4 says it this way…

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness,

 tolerance and patience, not realizing

that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

God in His goodness, desires to lead us

out of hiding and toward repentance.

A Godly sorrow that brings change and

enables us to walk out of hiding

by God’s forgiveness.

Sadly, many will not come out of hiding,

no matter how good God has been to them.

This is where Romans 1:18 and following comes in…

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven

against all the godlessness and wickedness of men

who suppress the truth by their wickedness

 Romans 1:18

God’s wrath “IS” being revealed.

You do not want to go into hiding

and be tagged by God in your sin.

So how do we become “Righteousness”?

Three times we find in Scripture these words…

"The righteous will live by faith."

In Habakkuk, God reveals, gives revelation to Habakkuk,

 who is standing watch.

God reveals or uncovers…

The sin of the people and the righteousness of people.

God also reveals the timing.

Although God sees and now Habakkuk sees.

 God says…

The revelation awaits an appointed time;…

it will certainly come and will not delay

Although sin is uncovered,

 the uncovering of God’s wrath,

His judgment, will come later.

The reading of Habakkuk 2:4 is interesting…

“but the righteous will live by his faith—"

The word faith is also translated “faithfulness”.

So, it would read like this…

“but the righteous will live by his faithfulness—"

This shows us faith will have faithfulness.

The question that comes from this is…

 Does your faith have faithfulness?

Paul uses the words…

"The righteous will live by faith."

 Galatians 3:11

Paul is pointing out living by faith

is not keeping the commandments.

The righteous will not live by law…

 They will live by faith.

This is a very important difference.

When Paul uses these words in Romans 1:17…

“The righteous will live by faith.”

Paul says Righteousness starts with faith and ends with faith.

Righteousness is living faithfully every day from start to finish.

Righteousness is revealed or uncovered by God in the Gospel…

The uncovering of God’s goodness and what is right.

Not to be a law, but a lifestyle we live.

If you do not repent,

 expose ourselves before God

and find forgiveness…

 God in the appointed time

will pour out His wrath and judgment.

Hide and Seek in the dark can be scary and fun.

But don’t play Hide and Seek with God.

Righteousness is not a game.

Moses warned the people…

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD;

and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.

Numbers 32:23

BUT…

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

1 John 1:9-10

Romans 1:17…

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is REVEALED

Adam and Eve could not hide their sin.

King David could not hide his sin.

Uncover the Gospel and find Righteousness…

Before your sins are uncovered and revealed.

"The righteous will live by faith."

Scripture Reading

Romans 1:17 NIV

17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Habakkuk 2:2-4 NIV

2 Then the LORD replied:

"Write down the revelation

and make it plain on tablets

so that a herald may run with it.

3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time;

it speaks of the end

and will not prove false.

Though it linger, wait for it;

it will certainly come and will not delay.

4 "See, he is puffed up;

his desires are not upright —

but the righteous will live by his faith—

Galatians 3:11 AMP

11 Now it is evident that no person is justified (declared righteous and brought into right standing with God) through the Law, for the Scripture says, The man in right standing with God [the just, the righteous] shall live by and out of faith and he who through and by faith is declared righteous and in right standing with God shall live

Galatians 3:11-14 NIV

11 Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith."   12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The man who does these things will live by them."   13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."   14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Romans 1 “Obedience That Comes From Faith”

Romans 1

“Obedience That Comes From Faith”

Description: What Does Romans 1:17 Mean?

“…obedience that comes from faith” Romans 1:5

We obey what we believe

Until the world around you has Faith, we will not have righteousness and obedience

The Righteous live by Faith because it is the first and last thing they do

Paul knew it is Faith in God’s Word and

Only Faith that changes a person and changes the world

Look at the results of your life

Do you have Faith in God’s Word?

If so, then you are obedient and God calls you Righteous

It is Faith that makes all the difference

 “Obedience That Comes From Faith”

Forty times in the Book of Romans

you will find the word FAITH.

Each time we find the word Faith,

we get a better description of what Faith is.

We find the word Faith five times in Chapter 1.

Paul says in verse 5…

obedience that comes from faith

We live in a world of disobedience.

As little children, we learn

we get attention when we disobey.

It seems that we live in a world that the only

way to get attention is through disobedience.

Where there is disobedience, there is unrest.

I am NOT saying…

The world is perfect and everyone should submit to it.

Jesus understood the injustice, greed and evil

of this world and came to save it.

There is so much civil disobedience and unrest

that it seems the word obedience is a bad word.

Paul’s words “obedience that comes from faith” are profound.

We do what we believe in.

In the end, faith is the only thing we are obedient to.

The warning is…

There is a way that seems right to a man,

but in the end it leads to death.

Proverbs 14:12

What you believe in matters.

Paul later in verse 18 of Romans 1

speaks of the Wrath of God…

A world, people who are disobedient

to God and His laws of nature.

Paul gives us the answer for changing a world

of disobedience to a world of obedience…

It is Faith

We all want to do what we believe in.

When people believe in the right thing,

they begin to do the right thing.

We can use all kinds of methods to get people

to do the right thing, but unless they believe the truth,

change will not happen.

Jesus left His disciples in the world and told them

to go into the world and preach the Gospel.

It is the message or Word of God that brings faith.

Of all the messages we are filling our street with,

only one Message will bring obedience and peace.

You cannot force people to believe or have faith.

They must be convinced it is the truth

and the foundational or starting place is…

The Son of God, Jesus Christ died,

was buried and arose from the dead.

So, Paul tells us the most important

thing on changing a life is faith.

In Romans 1:17, Paul says…

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed,

a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,

just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

It is the Gospel that reveals righteousness,

the acts of obedience.

Righteousness comes by faith.

Our message from start to finish is Faith.

Faith comes by hearing the Gospel, the Word of God.

Our goal is to help people understand what

God has done for them through Jesus Christ.

When they begin to understand…

They have faith and do what they believe.

This is the way we become righteous…

This is the way we become obedient.

This is why Paul ends verse 17

with a quote from Habakkuk 2:4…

"The righteous will live by faith."

Parents…

Rules, order and structure are needed in the home,

 but unless you have communicated

to your children the “why”

in a way they can believe it,

you will have disobedience.

This is the same for your friends,

people you work with and neighbors.

Until the world around you has faith,

we will not have righteousness and obedience.

The Righteous live by faith because

it is the first and last thing they do.

Paul knew it is faith in God’s Word…

And only faith that changes

a person and changes the world.

Look at the results of your life.

Do you have faith in God’s Word?

If so, then you are obedient and

God calls you Righteous.

It is Faith that makes all the difference.

Scripture Reading (NIV)

Romans 1:5

5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.

Romans 1:8

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

Romans 1:11-13

11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.

Romans 1:16-17

17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
