Fight for Your Family
Ridicule
Sanballat was an
angry man who did not want to see the walls of Jerusalem rebuilt
His method of attack
is one of the most common forms of attack
Ridicule…“the subjection of someone or something to
contemptuous and dismissive language or behavior.”
Another word is
mocking
Sadly, this form of
attack is widely used, it is said
“Ridicule is the first and last argument of a fool”
Ridicule comes in
many forms, one of the most common is comedy
Getting others to
laugh at the things we do not like or hate
Ridicule is usually
the first form of attack
Jesus in Matthew 5
speaks about the strongest form of ridicule
Jesus tells us how to
deal with hate
Don’t get off focus
in building truth and wisdom
Let God avenge
The way to fight for our families is with love
and good deeds

Jesus in Matthew 5 speaks
about the strongest form of ridicule…
You have heard that it
was said to the men of old, You shall not kill, and whoever kills shall be
liable to and unable to escape the punishment imposed by the court.
But I say to you that
everyone who continues to be angry with his brother or harbors malice (enmity
of heart) against him shall be liable to and unable to escape the punishment
imposed by the court; and whoever speaks contemptuously and insultingly to his
brother shall be liable to and unable to escape the punishment imposed by the
Sanhedrin, and whoever says, You cursed fool! [You empty-headed idiot!] shall
be liable to and unable to escape the hell (Gehenna) of fire.
Matthew
5:21-23 AMP
Ridicule is the manifestation of anger and hatred.
We all hate it when we are ridiculed.
The natural response is to retaliate.
To repay evil with evil.
In Romans 12:21we are told…
Do not be overcome by
evil,
but overcome evil with
good.
When Sanballat was ridiculing
Nehemiah for rebuilding the wall…
He did not let it sidetrack him from
the main objective, to build the wall.
If…
“Ridicule is the first
and last argument of a fool.”
Then don’t get caught up in the fool’s game.
The saying “fight fire with fire” is
not true when you are fighting ridicule.
Ridicule is effective in two ways…
Ridicule promotes anger and hate, not love.
It takes your attention and
focus off what you should be doing.
Be sure you build your family walls with wisdom…
Sound principles that will stand up against criticism.
If our children see us engaging ridicule
and mocking with ridicule and mocking remarks…
They may miss the defense of the wall.
The wall that protects our families
is a wall of truth and wisdom.
It is truth and wisdom that guards us.
Romans 12 also tells us to leave the wrath up to God.
It is not our job to take revenge.
The contrary response we are given is…
"If your enemy is
hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give
him something to drink.
In doing this, you
will heap burning coals on his head."
Do not be overcome by
evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:20-21
Fighting for your family is not easy.
God’s design of the family is being
ridiculed in almost every movie and
TV show your family is watching.
Sadly, the more society hears something
the more it begins to accept it.
But on the other hand the more good society
sees, the more people begin to accept it.
So build your family on love and truth.
Let the strength of your good overcome evil.
Fighting the Sanballat’s ridicule
is the job of the family of God.
The church around the world is pro-family.
Together families share life
together and become
stronger.
You and I are not alone in the fight for the family.
We need the church and the church
needs us to keep the family strong.
Many are tired of the failure of family in society
and they are looking for help with their families.
The same doors that are open to members
are open to those looking for help.
Therefore, we all
need to clearly sound
the trumpet as watchmen.
We all need to be
ready to fight against evil.
And we all need to be building with truth and wisdom.
Remember God is our Father…
A father to the
fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy
dwelling.
God sets the lonely in
families,
he leads forth the
prisoners with singing;
but the rebellious
live in a sun-scorched land.
Psalm 68:5-6
Scripture Reading
Nehemiah 4:12-14 NIV
12 Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten
times over, "Wherever you turn, they will attack us."
13 Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the
lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with
their swords, spears and bows. 14 After I looked things over, I stood up and
said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be
afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your
brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes."
