Fight for the Family Remember the Lord

Fight for the Family
Remember the Lord

Parenting books, there seems to be no end
I know parents who were ready to write another book
On parenting after having their first child
Then they had a second child and realized all their understanding
Didn’t work with the second child
When we are under attack, when the peace and joy of the family is threatened
When the morals, the health, provisions are under attack
Remember the Lord!
He is great and awesome
It may sound simple to take a few minutes to remember Him
But when you do, you will find He is there
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,… Psalm 46:1-3

Remember the Lord

Parenting books…

There seems to be no end.

I know parents who were ready to
write another book on parenting
after having their first child.

Then they had a second child and realized all
their understanding didn’t work with the second child.

The expert parent ready to teach others,
 soon becomes the student.

Nehemiah says there are two things to do
before entering the fight for your family.

The first is…

“Don't be afraid of them”
Nehemiah 4:13

Fear is our greatest enemy.

The difference between young shepherd boy, David
and the well-armed and skilled Israelite army was fear.

You can have all the weapons of warfare,
but they do you no good if you let fear rule you.

The second thing Nehemiah says is…

Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome
Nehemiah 4:13

Remember the Lord!

The other day I was about to
give my opinion on a matter.

As I was about to speak I heard in my head
the challenge I had recently given to my family.

The challenge I gave them was to…

 “Seek God first”

Matthew 6:33 & 34 tells us to…

…seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Before we call the bank, or the
doctor, a friend, even a pastor…

Remember God!

Seek God first.

When we are under attack, when the
peace and joy of the family is threatened…

When the morals, the health,
provisions are under attack…

Remember the Lord!

He is great and awesome.

I can’t tell you how many times when I felt the
threat and fear, caused me to jump to conclusions.

One of the amazing things I find
in the stories of the Bible is…

 God who never changes doesn’t
always do things the same way.

As a pastor, when I drove to an appointment
at a hospital or some other crises…

I found the drive time was so important to
my ability to be a help to those in need.

In that drive time, I could talk to God.

If I did not feel I had a word from the Lord
when I got to my destination, I sat in my car
until I had something from God to share.

I wish I could have written down the ways
those words from the Lord helped others.

It has saved me time and
energy by seeking God first.

So when it comes to fighting for your family…

REMEMBER THE LORD!

It may sound simple to take a
few minutes to remember Him…

But when you do you will find He is there.

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
Psalm 46:1-3

God will move heaven and earth to help you.

Scripture Reading

Nehemiah 4:12-14 NIV

12 Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, "Wherever you turn, they will attack us."

13 Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. 14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes."
