Calling Follow Me

Calling
Follow Me

The two strongest words Jesus said
And the two most important words Jesus said were
“Follow Me”
The call of God rests upon these two radical words
Throughout the Old and New Testaments, following was to walk with God
God calls us to a life long journey of following Him
We cannot rely on a decision card we filled out at the altar
We cannot count on a miracle prayer
These things are just a part of heeding the call
The call to “Follow Him”
The call comes with a great price
Jesus did not sugar coat the call to follow Him
He said take up your cross daily and “Follow Me”
Our response must be swift yet not without counting the cost
The two hardest words Jesus ever said are
“Follow Me”

Follow Me

The two strongest words Jesus said

And the two most important words
Jesus said were…

“Follow Me”

The call of God rests upon these two radical words.

The typical altar call will sound like this…

Invite Jesus into your heart.

Say the sinner’s prayer.

Every one of these calls are good,
but Jesus never used one of them.

The invitation to become a Christian…

The word Christian means Christ-like.

Sadly, being Christ-like is like a fan putting
on a jersey for his favorite team player.

He may look like a player but he
sits in the stands and watches.

Or, the jersey is just warn on game night
 as an occasional celebration.

I am not trying to put down the typical
altar call or becoming a Christian.

My point is Jesus’ call was just two words…

“Follow Me”

If you do not know how to get to
a particular destination you are lost.

Your best way of getting to your destination is
to follow someone who knows the way.

If you start following someone who
knows the way, you have a good start.

In order to get to the final destination,
you can’t stop when you are tired or you see
something along the way that interests you.

You have to keep up…

You can’t lose sight of the tail lights
of the one you are following.

Our journey is the journey of life…

In good weather and bad.

You can’t question the fork in
the road when you are following.

Jesus’ call to the disciples was…

 “Follow Me”

Jesus’ call to the crowds was to…

 “Follow Me”

From fishermen to tax collectors

Men and women

As well as, crowds followed Jesus.

Throughout the Old and New Testaments,
following was to walk with God.

God calls us to a life long
journey of following Him.

We cannot rely on a decision
card we filled out at the altar.

We cannot count on a miracle prayer.

These things are just a part of heeding the call.

The call to “Follow Him”.

The call comes with a great price.

Jesus did not sugar coat the call to follow Him.

He said take up your cross daily and “Follow Me”.

Our response must be swift, yet
not without counting the cost.

The two hardest words Jesus ever said are…

“Follow Me”

Scripture Reading

Matthew 16:24-27 NIV

"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me . 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
