Calling
Dress Code
What you and I are to
wear to work for God
Is not found in the
Clothing Department but it is found in Colossians, Chapter 3
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with
compassion,
kindness,
humility,
gentleness
and patience.
Bear with each other
and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity.
So what does that
look like?
Is this the way
people see you?
Dress Code
If you have lived through the last 40
years, you have seen some changes.
It used to be you wore your best on Sunday.
For decades people believed
they should give God their best.
Dressing in their best clothes
was a big part of
giving your best.
I went through the changes…
I used to wear a suit
to church then
a sport jacket, dress pants and a tie.
As time went on…
I stopped wearing the
tie.
Now I wear dress pants, dress shirt or
sport shirt and still wear the sport jacket.
(The sport jacket comes in handy when
the AC is blowing cold in the service.)
Maybe I am still old fashion…
As today people come
in shorts,
jeans with holes and
very casual attire.
“Respect” motivated the way
we dressed 40 years ago.
Today we are motivated by “Rest”.
Entering into God’s Rest, being
relaxed in the presence of the Lord.
Come as you are…
God receives sinners.
It is the soul God cares about
not the ‘how you dress’.
It would seem there is not a
dress code for coming to church.
I do think most churches and Christians
would hold to a dress
code of modesty.
No matter how we dress…
“Respect” and “Rest”
Are valid parts of the Christian life.
So what about our Calling…
Is there a dress
code?
Depending on where you work
Or have worked…
How you dressed for
work
was probably an issue.
Dressing as God’s
chosen people is also an issue.
What you and I are to wear to work for God
is not found in the Clothing Department…
But it is found in
Colossians, Chapter 3.
Therefore, as God's
chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with
compassion,
kindness,
humility,
gentleness
and patience.
Bear with each other
and forgive whatever
grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord
forgave you.
And over all these
virtues put on love,
which binds them all
together in perfect unity.
So what does that look like?
Is this the way people see you?
Ladies, you know what I am talking about.
Stand in front of a full length mirror.
Look at yourself from the top of
your head to the soles of your feet.
Does everything match?
Is everything on straight?
Are all the tags in the back and not seen?
Why a mirror…
Because a mirror is
the way
others and God sees us.
What brings everything we put on together…
Is “Love”.
And Love is expressed in…
compassion, kindness,
humility,
gentleness patience,
and forgiveness
Most of us look in
the mirror
before we go out in public.
But what if we were to look in the mirror at the
end of the day to see if we looked as good
when we came home as we did when we left.
There you have it.
You put on anything else…
You will expose things
you
don’t want people or God to see.
So check your clothes regularly.
Because your Calling has a strict dress code.
Scripture Reading

clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against
