Thrown Under the Bus
James has some good
advice when we are tempted to throw someone under the bus
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to
listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring
about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral
filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in
you, which can save you. James
1:19-21
In humility think
before you speak
Remember Jesus said
“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God”
Thinking before you
speak gives you time to become wise
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is
first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy
and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a
harvest of righteousness.
James 3:17-18
Thrown Under the Bus
It seems the term
“being thrown under
the bus”
is becoming more popular.
The other day someone text a
message that should not have been text.
The person who received the text is a
person who likes to be accepted by others.
This person also likes to think of them
self as being important and powerful.
This person receiving the text threw the person
sending the text “under the bus” by sharing
the text with the person the text was about.
As you can imagine, a
whole lot of drama happened.
A whole lot of hurt feelings.
We live in America, the land of free speech.
We live in an a social media
boom where words are everywhere.
Turn on the news and within a few
moments you will see someone
throwing someone else under the bus.
We seem to love making others look
bad in hopes of making us look good.
There are two reasons we
throw people under the bus…
1.
To expose a person’s wrong
2.
To make a person look wrong
There is no love in the person
who throws people under a bus.
In the Kingdom of God wrongs are to be
dealt with, but not in a way to destroy others.
Brothers, if someone
is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch
yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this
way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks he is something when
he is nothing, he deceives himself. Each one should test his own actions. Then
he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for
each one should carry his own load.
Galatians
6:1-5
These verses nail the problem…
Taking pride in our self by
comparing with someone else.
If you and I are to have any pride
it should be in being wise.
To be a restorer not a destroyer.
Keep issues on a small scale
not a big bus.
In other words most of the time you only
need to talk to one person, the person
you think said or did something wrong.
If you cannot work it out one on one the
next step is not the bus, but one other person.
James has some good advice
