Thrown Under the Bus Handling the Hurt

Thrown Under the Bus
Handling the Hurt

Being thrown under a bus can kill you, it can hurt you and it can be hard to recover
So what do you do if you are thrown under the bus?
The first thing we need to recognize is
“We serve an audience of ONE”
People do not always handle our wrongs right
People can be jealous or self-promoting and run you over
Yes, relationships are important and at the top of the list of God’s commands
But your relationship with God is always to be #1
Whatever we do in word or deed, do it to please the LORD
Recognize God promises you He will never leave you or forsake you
This is the reason we can say with confidence the Lord is our helper
So what can man do to us? Hebrews 13:5,6

Thrown Under the Bus
Handling the Hurt

Throwing someone under
the bus is a childish action.

Children seem to be born with
the skills of the blame game.

Blaming others goes all the
way back to Adam and Eve.

Children talk bad about other
children to make themselves look good.

Co-workers, politicians, all do it, even pastors talk
about other churches to make themselves look good.

My mother use to say…

“Just because everybody is doing it,
it doesn’t make it right.”

I am sure you have tire track
from being thrown under the bus.

I am sure you could tell me it hurt.

Being thrown under a bus can kill you,
it can hurt you and it can be hard to recover.

So what do you do if you are thrown under the bus?

The first thing we need to recognize is…

“We serve an audience of ONE”

People do not always handle our wrongs right.

People can be jealous or
self-promoting and run you over.

Yes, relationships are important and at
the top of the list of God’s commands.

But your relationship
with God is always to be #1.

Whatever we do in word or deed,
do it to please the LORD.

Recognize God promises you He
will never leave you or forsake you.

This is the reason we can say with
confidence the Lord is our helper.

So what can man do to us?
Hebrews 13:5,6

When you are under the bus…

The first thing to do is look to the Lord.

If you need forgiveness, He will give it.

If you are suffering unjustly, He will avenge.

Don’t take matters into your own hands.

Make sure you have peace with God.

And if you need healing,
He will give you the gift of healing.

Once you are confident God is with you and
you stand right with Him, then you can move on.

One person said…

“I have been thrown under the bus
so many times I can fix the brakes.”

The bus that ran over you is the audience that
listened to the one throwing you under the bus.

In humility, speak the truth in love.

Repent if you need to repent and don’t get
the bus rolling to run over your accuser.

In doing this you will fix the brakes.

Sometimes fixing the brakes is not possible and
when that happens you need to get a bigger truck.

Call on the Lord to bring in the tow truck.

Let God take care of the bus with faulty brakes.

Once we are right with God, we can turn our
attention on the one who threw us under the bus.

If the person exposed our wrong without
coming to us first, we should go to them in
hopes of...confess your sins to each other
and pray you may be healed.
 James 5:16

If you go to the person who threw you
under the bus and they will not hear you…

Take someone else who will help you reconcile.

If that person will not reconcile, than
maybe you need to stay away from them
so they don’t throw you under the bus again.

Remember the most important thing
in handling being under the bus is.

“You serve an audience of ONE.”

Honor God and He will honor you.

When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD,
he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.
Proverbs 16:7

Scripture Reading

Proverbs 16:1-9 NIV
To man belong the plans of the heart,
but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.

2 All a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the LORD.

3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and your plans will succeed.

4 The LORD works out everything for his own ends —
even the wicked for a day of disaster.

5 The LORD detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.

7 When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD,
he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.

8 Better a little with righteousness
than much gain with injustice.

9 In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.

Hebrews 13:5-6 NIV
God has said,

"Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."

6 So we say with confidence,

"The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"

James 5:16 NIV
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
