Thrown Under the Bus
Where Did it Start?
Throwing people under
the bus started before buses
Adam threw Eve under
the bus and Eve threw Satan under the bus
Throwing people under
the bus, blaming others, scapegoating is a pipe line
None of us wants to take
responsibility so we pass on the guilt and wrongs
Jesus came to stop
the abuse of throwing people under the bus
Jesus was thrown
under the bus for all of us
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is
not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us
our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him
out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 1:8-10
Let’s get back to
life before Adam threw Eve under the bus
It is time each one
of us gets back to doing our job
Of putting the right
names on God’s creation
Doing our job of
ruling over the earth
In love, cleaning up
our mess because Jesus forgives and became the scapegoat
Let’s get people out
from under the bus and on the bus
Jesus is driving where there is hope and
forgiveness
Where Did it Start?
The earliest record of throwing someone under
the bus happened long before there were buses.
Casting blame on someone else to escape
our guilt started with Adam and Eve.
The parents of us all set the example.
It was a team effort.
Adam, Eve and Satan were all in it together.
We ought to be reminded that Adam and
Eve were living in an all exclusive resort.
The Garden of Eden had
everything anyone would want.
Never a cloud in the
sky.
Every day the sun shined on the land revealing the
beautiful landscape with plants, hills, water, and animals.
Food was everywhere for the taking.
Maybe the best part was you did
not have to get up in the morning and
wonder what you were going to wear.
This all inclusive resort was
created and paid for by God.
God wanted Adam and Eve to feel at home,
to have ownership, so
He asked them
to give names to the created things.
God also wanted Adam and Eve to know that
out of all creation they were second only to God.
They were given authority to rule over everything.
There was only one thing God restricted them from.
Something that looked good,
but would destroy
their lives.
That one thing came up for discussion one day
as Satan decided to team up with Adam and Eve.
They were all in the wrong together.
Adam and Eve felt the fear and guilt of their actions.
It was that fear that caused them to hide and
that fear that caused Adam to throw Eve under
the bus and Eve to throw Satan under the bus.
Our first parents modeled blaming others,
using an escape goat to cover wrongs.
We have learned well from our parents.
I can’t imagine anyone living past the age of five
not throwing someone under the bus in order
to escape wrong and to make themselves look better.
We all know we live in a
world that is not all inclusive.
There is more shifting the blame on others for the
troubles of life than there are buses in the world.
What is so interesting is the same God
who created the all-inclusive resort
for Adam and Eve has come back.
God came back as an escape goat for all of us.
He took on our shame and guilt.
God, who did no wrong, was
thrown under the bus for us.
God made a way for us to
receive God’s provision again.
Our part is to admit our guilt, to not
blame others, but recognize our wrong.
It is called repentance.
Amazingly God says…
If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just
and will forgive us
our sins and
purify us from all
unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
If we repent God forgives.
Therefore, we should stop
throwing others under the bus.
We should not be shifting the blame.
We are all guilty.
If we claim we have
not sinned, we make him out
to be a liar and his
word has no place in our lives.
1 John 1:10
We are not going to change
the world by blaming others.
The blame game, throwing
people under the bus, is a pipe line.
Adam threw Eve under the bus
and Eve threw Satan under the bus.
All have sinned.
Jesus came to stop the pipe line
of throwing people under the bus.
It is time each one of us takes
responsibility for our actions.
It is time each one of us gets back to doing our
job of putting the right names on God’s creation.
Doing our job of ruling over the earth.
In love, cleaning up our mess because
Jesus forgives and became the scapegoat.
Let’s get people out from under the bus and on the bus.
Jesus is driving where there is hope and forgiveness.
