Walking
Through the Shadow of Death
Your
Days are Numbered
It
is clear we do not know the number of days we will live
What
is clear, is
God
determined that each of our days is to be filled with His glory
Sadly,
we do not live in the heavenly wisdom
We
do not live each day in harmony with God’s design
So
we suffer in ways God never intended
There
is a way that seems right to a man but the end is destruction
Proverbs
16
"Whoever
would love life and see good days must ….”
1
Peter 3:10
Live
in harmony with God every day
Your
Days are Numbered
What does it mean…
“Your days are numbered”
Is this figurative or literal?
A question arises…
“Has God given each one of us “X” number of days?”
In the time between the fall of Adam
and Eve, the curse of death…
“If
you eat of the tree you shall surely die”
And the time of the flood, we are told…
Then
the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend
with
man forever, for he is mortal;
his
days will be a hundred and twenty years."
Genesis 6:3
Moses says after seeing the
Children of Israel die in the wilderness…
The
length of our days is seventy years —
or
eighty, if we have the strength
Psalm 90:10
Job says our days are determined…
Man's
days are determined;
you have decreed the number of his months
and
have set limits he cannot exceed
Job 14:5
Our days are written in God’s Book before birth…
Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days
ordained for me
were
written in your book before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139:16
Whatever our days are…
Whether
limited, we cannot exceed
125 year as we see in Genesis 6:3
Or, God predetermined each
one of us with “X” number of days
Our days are written in a Book.
Let’s consider what God has
put in the Book of our days…
For
I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD,
"plans
to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans
to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
Although God seems to number our days, and His
plans for our days are filled with prosperity and
blessing.
There seem to be conditions…
And
if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and
commands
as David your father did, I will give you a long life.
1 Kings 3:14-15
Honor your father and your mother,
so
that you may live long in the land
the LORD your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12
Just
as man is destined to die once,
and
after that to face judgment
Hebrews 9:27
Deuteronomy 30:15-20, tells us we have a choice…
See,
I set before you today life and
prosperity,
death and destruction.
The Book and the Book of Revelation 20…
God’s Word tells us there is “a Book of Life”.
This Book is “The Lamb’s Book of Life”.
The Book of Life has the names of those
who will be allowed to enter heaven.
The Books are our lives each one of us,
the story of what we did with our days.
Those Books will be judged to see if our lives,
our days, were in harmony with God’s plan for us.
Then
I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled
from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead,
great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another
book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to
what they had done as recorded in the books.
Revelation 20:11-13
It is not God’s will that any should perish.
God created us to enjoy Him to live in
harmony with Him and His design.
It is clear that God’s plan for our days
whatever the number they are determined to be,
God’s plan and desire is to see us blessed.
The blessings of God can only be
obtained as we live by faith in His truth.
Moses after seeing the children of Israel die
in the wilderness because of disobedience said…
Teach
us to number our days aright,
that
we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12
All
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
All of us fall short of what God has
planned or written about our days.
James tells us how to get the
daily wisdom Moses asked for…
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask
God,
who
gives generously to all without finding fault,
and
it will be given to him.
James 1:5
James also tells us to get
Heavenly wisdom and what it is…
Who
is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds
done in the humility that comes from wisdom
But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do
not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom " does not come
down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have
envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
James 3:13-ff
It is clear we do not know the
number of days we will live.
What is clear, is…
God determined that each of our
days is to be filled with His glory.
Sadly, we do not live in the heavenly wisdom.
We do not live each day in harmony with God’s design.
So we suffer in ways God never intended.
There
is a way that seems right to a
man
but the end is destruction
Proverbs 16
"Whoever
would love life and see good days must ….”
1 Peter 3:10
Live in harmony with God every day.
Scripture
Reading
Deuteronomy 30:15-20 NIV
15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity,
death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to
walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will
live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are
entering to possess.
17 But if your heart turns away and you are not
obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them,
18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not
live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
19 This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses
against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.
Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may
love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD
is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to
your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
1 Peter 3:8-12NIV
8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one
another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do
not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to
this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For,
"Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
11 He must turn from evil and do good;
he must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do
evil."
