6 Cycles of Family Training Up a Child in the Way They Should Go

6 Cycles of Family

Training Up a Child in the Way They Should Go

Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the life”
“I came that you might have life to the full”

Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it.

The Hebrew word for “train up” means
to initiate, to dedicate, or discipline

To initiate is to cause a beginning,
to start or begin (something),
to instruct in rudiments or
principles of something

Parents must ask themselves what start
buttons do I want to push in my child.

We must also ask what buttons
am I pushing without thinking.

First, we must realize children learn
by what is “caught” and “taught”.

It amazes me how fast children pick up things.

They don’t have to understand it to accept it.

Like the little boy who shocks his parents and
friends when he uses a four letter word he just heard.

In percussion music, “rudiments” is one of a number of
relatively small patterns which form the foundation
for more extended and complex drum patterns.

It’s these rudiments or principles that
a child will build their lives on.

The ABC’s and the 123’s will be great
skills in the future of a child.

But being taught the way of love, kindness,
goodness, humility, self-control, and faith
along with the other godly principles
will help develop strong character.

Children’s stories books are helpful but modeling
Godly character will create the strongest patterns.

Because children pick up things so fast without discernment,
discipline becomes an important part of training.

All too often adults laugh at things children do
wrong rather than lovingly showing them a better way.

Discipline is a very big part of training.

Discipline and self-control
are a must to achieve your best.

A close look at God’s Word will
tell you discipline is key to success.

Words like “take up your cross daily”

“He that overcomes all things shall…”

“He that endures to the end shall be saved”

Training our children to be strong is important
as we know the world can be very hard.

We don’t want our children
to fail or be unsuccessful.

We want the best for them.

But for that to happen it will take a skillful ear that can
hear the rudiment (basic and fundamental) sounds.

In the end we want our children’s lives to be
a sound of worship to the God who created
us with so many amazing abilities.

A focus on who God is will help
us to see what we are to be.

For we were created in His Image.

And that is what we all should be training to look like.

There are 6 cycles for a family to navigate

“Cycles of family life”
The marriage
Bearing children
Raising children
The empty nest / launching new family
The declining years
Death in the marriage

Family cycles should be a great experience for the whole family

Scripture Reading
