6 Cycles of Family The Grandparent’s Nest

6 Cycles of Family

The Grandparent’s Nest

I hope you have the joyous memories
of your grandparent’s home.

There are many details I
remember about their homes.

But what I remember most is the love.

The feeling of being special.

The confidence they showed in me.

Growing up in life I found myself never wanting to
do anything that would disappoint my grandparents.

Many times I was not alone at their house, my
brothers and sisters along with the cousins would be there.

The environment of love built strong family ties.

Today, Sandy and I want to have that
same environment for our grandchildren.

An environment where our grandchildren
 will feel special and loved.

Our house is not quiet on Sundays after church
the family fills our home each Sunday.

The cousins always find things to do.

Whether it is dress up from the old chest Nana has filled with
clothing so they can pretend to be anyone they want…

To build things with the thousands of legos...

Play school or secretary at Nana’s desk…

Or, the things they bring from home.

At Nana and Papa’s house the word “No” is
rarely spoken because love fills the home.

Love never fails because love
fulfills all the ‘one another’ commands.

We have filled our nest with lots of things
for our grandchildren to play with…

But that is not the reason they want
to go to Nana & Papa’s house.

The reason is we have made our nest warm and comfortable.

It is the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith-
fulness, gentleness and self-control that line the nest.

Each child is accepted just as they are.

The only law we have is love.

Yes, there are times when we have to point out things
that do not demonstrate love but that is also done in love.

Our grandchildren ask to spend the night all the time.

It amazes me the things they want to do with us.

They want to pray with us and
share in our daily communion.

Grandchildren pick up on everything
and some day they will be like us.

The Apostle Paul mentored Timothy in the faith
and Paul realized the strong influence Timothy’s
grandmother had on him.

Timothy became the great man of faith
because of His grandmother.

Timothy must have loved going
to his grandmother’s house.

There he must have seen how the Word of
God was lived out on a daily bases.

I am sure many of Timothy’s messages had
examples from his grandmother’s life.

Memorizing scripture is good but it does not
have meaning until we see it lived out in life.

What does your grandparent’s nest look like?

As grandparents what you fill your nest with
will make generational and eternal differences.

Keep the joy of grandparenting alive.

There are 6 cycles for a family to navigate
“Cycles of family life”
The marriage
Bearing children
Raising children
The empty nest / launching new family
The declining years
Death in the marriage
Family cycles should be a great experience for the whole family

Scripture Reading

2 Timothy 1:5-6 NIV

5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith,
which first lived in your grandmother Lois
and in your mother Eunice and,
I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
