“If you don't take your
stand in faith,
you won't have a leg to
stand on."
Isaiah 7:9
Stand
Faith to Stand
In Ephesians 6, we are told
after doing all to stand – STAND!
Doing all to stand
is being fully dressed in the Armor of
God.
Each piece of armor is described with a function.
The shield is a Shield
of Faith.
In Isaiah 7, God sends Isaiah the prophet
to Ahaz the king of Judah.
The Kingdom
of Israel is divided into
two kingdoms.
Pekah King of Israel was to the north
and King Rezin of Aram was threatening
to attack King Ahaz of Judah to the south.
Ahaz did not deserve God’s help.
He was not a good king and worshiped other gods.
Never the less, because of the people,
God sent Isaiah the prophet to tell him not to worry
about these two kings who were coming to destroy him.
God told King Ahaz that the two kings will burn out
and ends with these words:
If you don't take your stand in faith,
you won't have a leg to stand on.
Isaiah 7:9
God spared King Ahaz.
Even with this great undeserved intervention from God,
King Ahaz did not stand
in faith.
When he died, he was buried without honor.
Faith is what gives us legs to stand on.
The Shield of Faith
gives us the ability to stand strong.
We know that faith
comes by hearing the word of God. Romans
10:17
Strong legs come from knowing God’s Word
because His Word can never fail.
The enemy is always trying to get us
to doubt God’s Word for our lives.
As we stand on
what He has told us, we can expect
doubt to flash through our minds like a flaming arrow.
Therefore it is important that we read and reread
the scriptures we find ourselves standing on.
To speak those words as a declaration,
strengthens the legs when they start to shake.
I had a time when my backhoe was on
a hill and very close to tipping over;
it took some time to get it down.
Fear had so much gripped me,
that when I got off the backhoe and
onto the ground my legs were like jelly;
I felt like they were not going to support me.
You may have faced a crisis where your legs felt like
jelly.
As good as jelly is on bread, you need more
than bread to nourish and strengthen those legs.
Jesus said, when tempted by the devil and He became
very weak…
“Man shall not live by bread alone
but by every word that proceeds out of
the mouth of God.”
Scripture Reading
Ephesians 6:10-16 NIV
10 Finally, be strong
in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on the full
armor of God so that you can take
your stand against
the devil's schemes.
12 For our struggle
is not against flesh and blood,
but against the
rulers,
against the
authorities,
against the powers of
this dark world
and against the
spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God,
so that when the day
of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have
done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then,
with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,
with the breastplate
of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet
fitted with the readiness
that comes from the
gospel of peace.
16 In addition to all
this, take up the shield of faith,
with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
7 But GOD, the
Master, says,
"It won't
happen.
Nothing will come of
it
8 Because the capital
of Aram is Damascus
and the king of Damascus is a mere man,
Rezin.
As for Ephraim, in
sixty-five years
it will be rubble, nothing
left of it.
9 The capital of
Ephraim is Samaria,
and the king of Samaria is the mere son of
Remaliah.
If you don't take your stand in faith,
you won't have a leg to stand on."
