Teach Us to Number Our Days
Because They Matter in Heaven
On John Wayne’s tombstone
are words to remind us
that our yesterdays are
important.
John Wayne was an American icon.
He epitomized rugged masculinity.
In the movie “The
Searchers,”
John made famous the phrase,
“That will be the day!”
After Buddy Holly saw the movie,
he turned that phrase into a song that
would be
recognized by almost any
teenager of the late 50’s and early 60’s.
The song says…
“That will be the day when I die.”
It is interesting to read the inscription on John
Wayne’s headstone:
Tomorrow is the most important thing in our lives
because…
“That will be the day when I die.”
There is coming a tomorrow for everyone of us;
and one of those tomorrows will be the day you die.
Tomorrow hopes we’ve learnt something from yesterday.
Are we ready for that tomorrow?
It comes at midnight.
You can’t stop it.
You can’t slow it down.
Tomorrow is coming!
John Wayne was a tough man;
he was a hard fighter; but tomorrow came.
Our tomorrow will come; it may come suddenly
without warning
or may remind you with pain
and suffering; but it will come.
Will it be an end of all tomorrows?
Or, will it be the start of a new life, in a new
place?
Jesus came to tell those who hope for
something after this life, that there is hope.
Revelation 21 and 22 reads like a travel brochure
of heaven and the new earth.
In Revelation 22:12 NIV we read…
"Behold, I am coming soon!
My reward is with me, and I will give to
everyone according to what he has done.
Our days on earth matter to God.
Let’s make our days count so we might hear Him say…
“Well done my good and
faithful servant”
Scripture Reading
Psalm 90:12 The Message
12 Oh! Teach us to
live well!
Teach us to live
wisely and well!
Revelation 22:12-17 NIV
12 "Behold, I am
coming soon!
My reward is with me,
and I will give to
everyone according to what he has done.
13 I am the Alpha and
the Omega,
the First and the
Last,
the Beginning and the
End.
14 "Blessed are
those who wash their robes,
that they may have
the right to the tree of life
and may go through
the gates into the city.
15 Outside are the
dogs,
those who practice
magic arts,
the murderers,
the idolaters
and everyone who
loves and practices falsehood.
16 "I, Jesus,
have sent my angel
to give you this
testimony for the churches.
I am the Root and the
Offspring of David,
and the bright
Morning Star."
17 The Spirit and the
bride say, "Come!"
And let him who hears
say, "Come!"
Whoever is thirsty,
let him come;
and whoever wishes,
let him take the free
gift of the water of life.
