Timeless Purpose
Ever see something
and ask
“What is the purpose?”
“This is in accordance with
the
terms of the eternal and timeless purpose
which He has realized and carried into
effect
in [the person of] Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Ephesians 3:11 AMP
It only makes sense that an eternal God
would have a timeless
purpose.
A purpose
that was before the creation of the world
and will remain the same forever.
In a changing world,
we many times lose sight of the big picture.
The other day my daughter Julie was having breakfast
at IHOP.
Everyone in the restaurant was looking at her.
She was feeling insecure because she was on her way
home
from a Brownies Camp Out
at the Mud Hens Stadium
and didn’t look her best.
She found a great sigh of relief when she realized
they were not looking at her
but through the window by her,
watching the McDonalds next door being torn down.
My grandchildren loved this McDonalds with its playroom.
Somehow someone thought that this building
and all its play ground equipment had served its
purpose.
In the time you can eat breakfast, it became all scrap.
Kids all over this end of town will never understand
why their play ground was tore down.
But the purpose of McDonalds
was not to build play grounds.
Their purpose was to build the best fast food
restaurants;
and the new building will reflect their purpose.
The Apostle Paul is trying to help us see
that in a world of change
God’s purpose has never changed.
Here are a few words Paul uses to describe
the eternal and timeless
purpose of God:
It is full of unsearchable riches!
The Amplified says it this way in Ephesians 3:8…
the unending
(boundless, fathomless, incalculable,
and exhaustless)
riches of Christ
[wealth which no human being could have
searched out]
Although it’s been a mystery,
it has been well administrated
and ready to be revealed.
Tomorrow we will find out why it is so important
we understand God’s timeless purpose.
For today,
give it some
thought to what the riches
of His timeless
purpose are.
Scripture Reading
Ephesians 3:1-10 NIV
3:1 For this reason
I, Paul,
the prisoner of
Christ Jesus
for the sake of you
Gentiles—
2 Surely you have
heard about the administration of God's grace
that was given to me
for you,
3 that is, the
mystery made known to me by revelation,
as I have already written
briefly.
4 In reading this,
then,
you will be able to
understand my insight
into the mystery of
Christ,
5 which was not made
known to men in other generations
as it has now been
revealed by the Spirit
to God's holy
apostles and prophets.
6 This mystery is
that through the gospel
the Gentiles are
heirs together with Israel,
members together of
one body,
and sharers together
in the promise in Christ Jesus.
7 I became a servant
of this gospel
by the gift of God's
grace
given me through the
working of his power.
8 Although I am less
than the least of all God's people,
this grace was given
me:
to preach to the
Gentiles
the unsearchable
riches of Christ,
9 and to make plain
to everyone
the administration of
this mystery,
which for ages past
was kept hidden in God,
who created all
things.
