Chosen People
All who believe in Christ are adopted.
Your father the devil would not take care of you;
So God offered to adopt you.
Ever had a standing invitation…
Where someone loved you so much they told you,
you were welcome anytime?
The thing about that invitation is
you have to leave your place
to get to their place.
God loves you so much
He has given you a standing invitation.
But you have to leave your place.
He chose you because He loves you and
He predestined you to be holy and blameless.
You and I have to accept the invitation.
Jesus said it this way…
Many are invited but few are chosen.
We see God called the children of Israel
His chosen people.
Why? Because
God saw in Abraham a man
who wanted what God had created him for.
But even though God made a promise to Abraham
that they would be His chosen people,
they did not all accept the invitation.
6 It is not as though God's word had
failed.
For not all who are descended from
Israel are Israel.
7 Nor because they are his descendants
are they all Abraham's children. Romans
9:6-7 NIV
16 But not all the Israelites accepted
the good news.
For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has
believed our message?"
17 Consequently, faith comes from
hearing the message,
and the message is heard through the
word of Christ.
Romans 10:16-18 NIV
The invitation given to Israel has also been given to
us…
an invitation to be adopted.
In
love He predestined us to be adopted
as His sons through Jesus Christ,
in accordance with His pleasure and will—
Ephesians 1:4-5 NIV
God says to us who received the invitation…
“…
you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people belonging to
God…”
Remember we were chosen with a purpose.
“…that you may declare the praises of Him
who
called you out of darkness into His
wonderful light.”
1 Peter 2:9 NIV
Many people chose God for what He can do for them.
But God chooses a people for what they can do for Him.
Thank God, He loved us so much He was willing to adopt
us.
Do we love Him enough to bring
Him pleasure and fulfill His will?
Scripture Reading
Matthew 22:1-14 NIV
22:1 Jesus spoke to
them again in parables, saying:
2 "The kingdom
of heaven is like
a king who prepared a
wedding banquet for his son.
3 He sent his
servants to those who had been invited
to the banquet to
tell them to come, but they refused to come.
4 "Then he sent
some more servants and said,
'Tell those who have
been invited that I have prepared my dinner:
My oxen and fattened
cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready.
Come to the wedding
banquet.'
5 "But they paid
no attention and went off —
one to his field,
another to his business.
6 The rest seized his
servants, mistreated them and killed them.
7 The king was
enraged.
He sent his army and
destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
8 "Then he said
to his servants,
'The wedding banquet
is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.
9 Go to the street
corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.'
10 So the servants
went out into the streets
and gathered all the
people they could find, both good and bad,
and the wedding hall
was filled with guests.
11 "But when the
king came in to see the guests,
he noticed a man
there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
12'Friend,' he asked,
'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?'
The man was
speechless.
13 "Then the
king told the attendants,
'Tie him hand and
foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness,
where there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
14 "For many are invited, but few are chosen."
Deuteronomy 7:5-11 NIV
6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your
God.
The LORD your God has
chosen you out of all the peoples
on the face of the
earth to be his people, his treasured possession.
7 The LORD did not
set his affection on you
and choose you because
you were more numerous than other peoples,
for you were the
fewest of all peoples.
8 But it was because
the LORD loved you
and kept the oath he
swore to your forefathers
that he brought you
out with a mighty hand
and redeemed you from
the land of slavery,
from the power of
Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Know therefore that
the LORD your God is God;
he is the faithful
God, keeping his covenant of love
to a thousand
generations of those
who love him and keep
his commands.
10 But those who hate
him he will
repay to their face
by destruction;
he will not be slow
to repay to
their face those who
hate him.
11 Therefore, take
care to follow the commands,
decrees and laws I
give you today.
1 Peter 2:9-10 NIV
9 But you are a
chosen people,
a royal priesthood, a
holy nation,
a people belonging to
God,
that you may declare
the praises of him
who called you out of
darkness into his wonderful light.
10 Once you were not
a people,
but now you are the
people of God;
once you had not
received mercy,
but now you have received mercy.
