The WORD

The WORD

 Description: Pin on Daily Inspiration

There are over 7000 languages in the world

But only one language from Heaven

It is the Word of God that never changes

Heaven and earth will pass away,

but my words will never pass away.

Matthew 24:35

Whose words are you hanging on to?

The WORD

We use words every day.

Around the world there are over 7000 languages

and 300 writing systems.

The most used language is Standard Chinese (Mandrin)

followed by Spanish and English.

We can teach some animals to mimic words,

but humans have this incredible ability

to speak with words.

A word is a distinct element of speech

used with other words to form sentences

and communication is the result.

John starts his Gospel with “the Word”.

Verse 1 of John 1 he writes…

1 In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

I have always found these words of John strange.

In fact, when I read his first few verses

I hear in the back of my mind the tune

to the Twilight Zone,

a TV Series from 1959 to 1964.

John is called The Revelator

and speaks in a way that makes you

think out of this world.

He got the name, The Revelator,

from writing the Book of Revelation.

So when John speaks it forces you to do

a “double take” and ask some questions.

When John says…

In the beginning was the Word.

He uses the Greek, logos (log'-os).

Strongs Greek and Hebrew Definitions says…

something said (including the thought);

by implication a topic (subject of discourse),

also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive;

by extension, a computation; specifically

(with the article in John)

the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ):

John says “The Word” making

 a separation from other words.

John says…

In the beginning was the Word.

This “Word” is not only separate from other words but…

Goes all the way back to the beginning
of creation as you can see in verse 3.

The second part of verse 1 tells us…

The Word is more then God speaking

the universe into existence.

And the Word was with God.

There is a connection or companion with God.

The strength of the companionship or connection

is clearly seen in the last part of verse 1…

And the Word was God.

The Word and God are united as one.

The language is the same.

In verse 2, we are told the Word is a person…

 “HE”

He was with God in the beginning.

John is making the connection

of “He”, “The Word”,  to Genesis.

1:1 In the beginning God created

the heavens and the earth.

Each time we read in Genesis 1

“God said, Let there be…”

John is saying this is the person

he is about to announce.

3 Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made.

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness,

but the darkness has not understood it.

 John 1:3-5

It is not till we get to John 1:37

that John tells us the name of

“The Word” he has been speaking of.

What can we learn from…

In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

John 1:1,2

The Word became flesh

and made His dwelling among us.

 John 1:14

1.    It is very important that we see

the importance of The Word.

Jesus is not only a man of His word…

He is what He says.

God is not a man, that He should lie,

nor a son of man,

that He should change His mind.

Does He speak and then not act?

Does He promise and not fulfill?

Numbers 23:19

Hebrews 6:18 says…

“It is impossible for God to lie”

2.    It is important that we see Jesus is not a “new word”

but the same Word from the beginning.

Have you noticed how we like to quote others?

Why?

Because history gives creditability.

Jesus brought us a New Covenant but…

The Word He spoke was the same as

in the beginning of creation.

God’s Word speaks life into existence.

God’s Word spoke at the time of creation

and things came to life.

Today God’s Word creates life…

For the word of God is living and active.

 Sharper than any double-edged sword,

it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,

 joints and marrow;

it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.

Hebrews 4:12-13

We can count on Jesus because…

He never changes and His Word never changes.

3.    The spoken Word of God is more then just talk,

it is lived out in deeds.

God not only spoke…

But His Word became flesh like you and I.

Jesus demonstrated life

and lived by the Word of God.

As important as bread is

 to our daily existence…

Living by the Word of God gives life.

Jesus answered, "It is written:

'Man does not live on bread alone,

but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

Matthew 4:4

There are over 7000 languages in the world.

But only one language from Heaven.

It is the Word of God that never changes.

Heaven and earth will pass away,

but my words will never pass away.

Matthew 24:35

Scripture Reading

John 1:1-14 NIV

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
