The Longest Missionary Journey
The longest missionary journey took place 2000 years ago
When God, the Father, sent His Son, Jesus, from Heaven to earth
Jesus traveled from heaven’s paradise to earth to seek and save the lost Luke 19:10
Jesus came because the Father loved the world
Jesus came not to condemn the world, but to befriend us
He demonstrated His love as He identified with our needs
and suffering, inviting many to become friends
Friends He taught
Jesus has passed on the call to us
To go into our world with love and make friends
By identifying with their needs and sufferings
In doing this, we will make friends, who we can teach what Jesus taught us
Jesus went the distance
How about you?
The Longest Missionary Journey
Have you ever thought about being a missionary?
You should!
Let’s think about it.
The longest missionary journey
took place 2000 years ago…
When God the Father sent His Son, Jesus
from heaven to earth.
Jesus traveled from heaven’s paradise
to earth to seek and save the lost.
Luke 19:10
Multitudes found the way to the Kingdom of Heaven
and received many benefits of heaven
because Jesus did the will of the Father.
Jesus was a foreigner and had to fit in.
He took on the image of the Son of Man.
Eighty times Jesus referred to Himself
as the Son of Man.
Yet, no one ever addressed Him
as the Son of Man.
Why?
Because Jesus wanted everyone born from Adam,
the first man, to know He became just like us.
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Hebrews 2:14-15
Jesus did not come to earth because
it was a better place.
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted,
he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Hebrews 2:18
In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brother.
Hebrews 2:10-11
Through suffering
Jesus showed the way to holiness…
Giving us a relationship as brothers.
He came because of love.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
John 3:16
Jesus came because the Father loves the world.
Is not the greatest commandment LOVE?
Greater love has no one than this,
that he lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13
Jesus came because of love.
For God did not send his Son
into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through him.
John 3:17
For all the condemning we do…
Jesus did not come to condemn
but to save.
Jesus is not just the missionary
to travel the greatest distance…
He set the example.
He was called by the Father
to go into the world
for both Jews and Gentiles.
A call of love.
A call to be like us.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way,
just as we are — yet was without sin.
Hebrews 4:15
Jesus passes the call unto all of us.
Matthew 28:19-20…
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Jesus went the distance
to seek and save the lost.
You don’t have to leave your city
to find the lost.
Today you can do the work of a missionary…
Identify with the needs of others.
Show compassion to help them.
Express love.
In doing so, some will become friends
and you will be able to teach them…
The wonderful things Jesus has taught you.
