The Word The Importance of The Word

The Word

The Importance of The Word

Description: the word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, Christ as the living Word is so available!

But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." Romans 10:8-11

God’s Word needs to be our confession

A confession that comes from the heart

The Word of God must also be our confession

The Word is what is spoken from our lips

It is with deep conviction in our hearts

The spoken words from our lips says we know we are saved

John says the Word is a person, it is Jesus

What people know they become

The person who knows God’s Word becomes one of God’s Children

Why does John introduce us to Jesus as The WORD?

So that we would know the importance of seeing

And hearing Jesus, the Word of God

Is the Word of God your Daily Bread?

The Word

The Importance of The Word

John 1:1-2 & 14…

In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

2 He was with God in the beginning.

14 The Word became flesh

and made his dwelling among us.

Why does John introduce us

to Jesus as The WORD?

For 4000 years, God spoke through others.

They spoke as the Spirit of God led them.

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:20-21

God had sent angels to give us

a message or Word of God.

In Hebrews 1:1-4 we read…

1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

Jesus is superior to the prophets and angels.

The Son is the radiance of God's glory

and the exact representation of his being,

sustaining all things by his powerful word.

All before Jesus

or after His return to Heaven

who spoke the Word of God

were like John the Baptist.

6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

John 1:6-9

Jesus spoke like no other.

At His Word demons shuttered,

 winds and wave obeyed,

bodies of the afflicted were healed,

even the dead were raised.

The same Word of God that created life

and light in the beginning came

to earth to speak life and light again.

Your word is a lamp to my feet

and a light for my path.

Psalms 119:105

John starts his Gospel with

a strong focus on The Word.

The Word is a person,

Jesus, and the person is God.

The Word of God is powerful.

The Word of God established

the heavens and the earth

There are many things John

could have said about God but…

He focuses our attention on The Word.

Deuteronomy 8:3-4 NKJV tells us…

Life comes from the Word of God.

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

Everyone has an opinion on God.

But unless they know God’s Word…

They don’t know what they are talking about.

You and I need to know God’s Word

and believe in it.

It is not enough to be opinionated.

11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

 Romans 10:8-11

Scripture Reading

John 1:1-14 NIV

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
