Paul a Tent Maker in Corinth

Have you ever thought about

being a missionary?

You should!

Let’s think about it…

More and more people today

are realizing their vocation is

the door to being a missionary.

Most missionaries do not go

into the field to start a church.

Many Americans go into

countries to teach English

Or…

 Go to teach skills that

make life a better place.

Some go with the skills

to build homes, schools, hospitals.

Some build water systems and infrastructure.

As they go into the world

to help make life better for others,

they make friends.

 Through those friendships these missionaries

find open doors to share
the Message of the Kingdom of God.

When we read the New Testament…

We can’t help but to read of a man named Paul.

Paul traveled to many locations

to preach the Gospel.

From his preaching many people

came to faith in Jesus.

So many people received his message…

Churches were started and grew.

We read in the book of Ephesians

and 1st and 2nd Corinthians…

Two of the churches accredited

to Paul’s missionary travels.

Paul made three missionary journeys.

Paul was an unusual man which

may keep us from identifying with him.

One of the questions we might ask is…

How could he afford these travels

and why did he go where he did?

Acts 18:1-4 NIV…

18 After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.

There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus,

who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla,

because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome.

Paul went to see them and because he was a tentmaker as they were,

he stayed and worked with them.

Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue,

trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

When Paul went to Corinth…

He worked with a couple named Aquila and Pricilla.

 Together they made tents

throughout the week.

On the Sabbath, he would reason

with Jews and Greeks in the synagogue.

It is said Paul made leather tents

and many of his tents were purchased

by the Roman army.

Imagine the people Paul meet

as he took orders and sold tents.

Imagine the conversations.

How about you?

 You may not make tents,

But the skill you use to make a living

puts you in a special place.

I wonder how much of Paul’s prayers

were focused on…

“God help me make more money.”

Verses

“God help me to speak and share

the love of Christ with those

I work for and with.”

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

Have you ever considered yourself a missionary?

You should…

Because it is not a mistake you are where you are.

Live your life with godly character,

gain respect, and share your skills.

If you do this…

 Your missionary doors will open

to share the Gospel.

Who knows…

 Maybe a church will start

or the church you attend with grow.
