Training Up a Child
Teaching the Way of LOVE Part II
Training our children comes down to one word, LOVE
We are to narrow all life training down to one thing, LOVE
Whatever you do in life if it is not done in LOVE, it is worthless
It takes discipline to love God and to love others
From the time we are born into this world we have a love for self-gratification
Training children in the way they should go
Is teaching and modeling for them the way of LOVE
The way to love God and to love others as ourselves
This is the one thing we are never to depart from all our lives
Teaching the Way of LOVE Part II
1 Corinthians 13:4-13 defines love for us…
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
Verses 1-3 of 1 Corinthians 13 tells us all
the great things we can do with our lives are nothing,
they gain nothing without Love…
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
So now that we have narrowed down what love is…
Let’s look at some other powerful scriptures
that speak about the way we should “Go”.
God’s example of love is everlasting.
He never departs from it.
But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord's love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children's children —
Psalms 103:17
David says in Psalms 63:3…
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
God’s love,
His example of love is better than life.
David says in Psalms 26:2-3…
2 Test me, O Lord, and try me,
examine my heart and my mind;
3 for your love is ever before me,
and I walk continually in your truth.
Test, examine my mind and heart.
Is the goal of love and honesty still the goal.
We must regularly examine to see
if what is in our hearts and minds
are on the narrow path of love.
God’s love is complete in us through obedience.
But if anyone obeys his word,
God's love is truly made complete in him.
This is how we know we are in him:
6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
1 John 2:5-6
The test of love.
This is how we know what love is:
Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.
And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.
1 John 3:16-17
How God’s love is made complete in us...
Dear friends, since God so loved us,
we also ought to love one another.
12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
1 John 4:11-12
The way love is made complete in us…
17 In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.
1 John 4:17-21
Training our children comes down to one word…
LOVE
We are to narrow all life training
down to one thing…
LOVE
Whatever you do in life
if it is not done in LOVE…
It is worthless.
It takes discipline to…
Love God and to love others.
From the time we are born into this world
we have a love for self-gratification.
Training children in the way they should go
is teaching and modeling for them
the way of love.
The way to love God
and to love others as ourselves.
This is the one thing we are never
to depart from all our lives.
