Train up a Child Practical Application

Train up a Child

Practical Application

Description: 30 things kids should know how to do by 12

You only have 18 years to train a child, after that they are on their own

They move out with a friend, go off to college or get married

So, your child will need to know how to cook, do laundry,

Clean, organize and other home skills

Each of these skills will not only be important in the house they live in

But the world they live in

In 18 years, a child, son, or daughter, walks out into this world

Will they be ready to put on their adult shoes?

Around our house we say to our grandchildren as they prepare

For high school graduation… “Are you ready to do adulting?”

Are you ready to take on the responsibilities of life?

Will our children be better off than we were?

Because we gave them a good foundation?

Adulting isn’t always easy

But it sure goes easier when you have the skills and personal discipline

Love is preparation and planning

Practical Application

Practical application

must be shown with love.

Love that not only shows approval…

But disapproval of actions and attitudes

because the child is loved.

So how is this practically worked out?

I heard a James Dobson’s program

that caught my attention.

The speaker said you only

have 18 years to train a child.

After that they are on their own.

They move out with a friend,

go off to college or get married.

So, your child will need to know how…

To cook, do laundry, clean, organize

and other home skills.

Each of these skills will not only be important

in the house they live in…

But the world they live in.

This world has slums where

there is a lack of skills

that lead to poverty.

This world has beautiful neighborhoods

and houses filled with bounty.

The basic skills children learn at home

will play a huge role in where your child

will live in the land (world)…

Egypt or the Promise Land.

I know this world is not my home

I am just passing through but…

Don’t you want to pass through

the better places on earth?

If a child can’t cook or do their laundry…

If they cannot keep their room clean and organized…

Than how will they be able to keep a job

where these basic things are necessary?

This is a huge part of training up a child

in the way they should go.

As much as we need to train

our children in character skills…

Like caring and sharing.

We need to train them

in practical life skills.

It seems every parent says…

“I can’t believe how fast my child has grown.”

Why do you buy shoes

every year for your child?

Because they are growing

and need something to walk in.

In 18 years, a child, son, or daughter,

walks out into this world.

Will they be ready to put on their adult shoes?

Around our house, we say to our grandchildren

as they prepare for high school graduation…

“Are you ready to do adulting?”

Are you ready to take on

the responsibilities of life?

Will our children be better off than we were

because we gave them a good foundation?

Adulting isn’t always easy…

But it sure goes easier when you have

the skills and personal discipline.

Love is preparation and planning.

Scripture Reading

 Proverbs 22:1-16 NIV

22 A good name is more desirable than great riches;

to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

2 Rich and poor have this in common:

The Lord is the Maker of them all.

3 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge,

but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

4 Humility and the fear of the Lord

bring wealth and honor and life.

5 In the paths of the wicked lie thorns and snares,

but he who guards his soul stays far from them.

6 Train a child in the way he should go,

and when he is old he will not turn from it.

7 The rich rule over the poor,

and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,

and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

9 A generous man will himself be blessed,

for he shares his food with the poor.

10 Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife;

quarrels and insults are ended.

11 He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious

will have the king for his friend.

12 The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge,

but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside!"

or, "I will be murdered in the streets!"

14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit;

he who is under the Lord's wrath will fall into it.

15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,

but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.

16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth

and he who gives gifts to the rich — both come to poverty.
