The Path You Are On is Not Going to End Well
Two Reasons Why Your Path Will Not End Well
The path of success is not achieved by our strength
But by taking our lead from the Holy Spirit
Our path will have mountains in the way
If we humbly submit to the Holy Spirit
God will speak the same words to us that He spoke to Zerubbabel
6 So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty.
7 "What are you, O mighty mountain?
Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground.
Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of 'God bless it! God bless it!'" Zechariah 4:6-7
Our path will not end well
If we do not humble ourselves to the power of the Holy Spirit
Our path will not end well unless our purpose is
To live a life-giving honor and glory to God
The Path You Are On is Not Going to End Well
Two Reasons Why Your Path Will Not End Well
There are many reasons our plans
do not end well.
Proverbs 16:4, 5 give us two of
the big reasons our plans will not end well
Verse 4…
The Lord works out everything for His own ends.
The Hebrew reads…
Yahweh has made everything for Himself.
Some translations say…
The Lord has made everything for His own purposes.
The first question we should ask is…
Why God created the heavens and the earth?
Psalms 19:1…
The heavens declare the glory of God.
The sun and moon,
the stars and galaxies,
the clouds and rain
all were created for God’s glory.
In Isaiah 6:3…
The six wing angels are crying out…
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory."
Isaiah 6:3
The heavens were created for God’s Glory.
Everything in Earth was created for His Glory.
Every person was created for His Glory.
Isaiah 43:6-7…
Bring my sons from afar
and my daughters from the ends of the earth —
7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made."
God created us in His image
both male and female.
Genesis 1:27
The point of an image is to image.
Images are erected to display the original
— to point to the original, glorify the original.
God made humans in His image
so that the world would be filled
with reflectors of God…
Images of God.
Seven billion statues of God…
So that nobody would miss the point of creation.
If we miss the point…
If we miss the reason,…
The purpose
for why everything was created.
Why we were created…
Our path will not end well.
Paul makes this clear in Romans…
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities
— his eternal power and divine nature
— have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made,
so that men are without excuse.
Romans 1:20
When we do seek His Glory…
When we exchange His Glory for
something else or our own glory…
Our path will not end well.
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.
Romans 2:4-11
Your life was created for God’s Glory.
Your life has a purpose.
Any path other than the one God created you for…
Will not end well.
The Lord works out everything for his own ends —
even the wicked for a day of disaster.
Proverbs 16:4
The second reason in Proverbs 16
for your path not ending well is…
Pride
The Lord detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:5
The path of success is paved with humility,
confidence and courage in God’s design and plan.
The path of success is not achieved by our strength…
But by taking our lead from the Holy Spirit.
Our path will have mountains in the way.
If we humbly submit to the Holy Spirit…
God will speak the same words to us
that he spoke to Zerubbabel.
6 So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty.
7 "What are you, O mighty mountain?
Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground.
Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of
'God bless it! God bless it!'"
Zechariah 4:6-7
Our path will not end well if…
We do not humble ourselves
to the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our path will not end well unless…
Our purpose is to live a life
giving honor and glory to God.
