The Silent Majority
God said to
Elijah
"What are you doing here, Elijah?"
"Go back the way you came”
While the Silent Majority
has been fighting for America (founding values)
A Vocal Minority has
been fighting against America (founding values)
There are many good
reasons we have been silent, doing good works
Some of us in making
a better home and a better America
Have gotten too busy
to build our faith and our lives have less of God than before
We have gotten too
busy to pray, attend church, share Christ and make disciples
Others of us who have
not bowed our Knee to Baal
Have gone into hiding
like Elijah
I am not saying we
should go to the street and protest and riot
But I do believe God
is saying to all of us
"What are you doing here"
"Go back the way you came”
Get out of this place
of hopelessness
Go back to
proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ and making disciples
The Silent Majority
Jezebel was a wicked woman,
she married Ahab King of Israel.
Israel had already been divided in half…
The northern Kingdom of Israel
and the southern Kingdom of Judah.
The Kingdom of Israel had drifted away
from the Lord and made it an easy transition
for Jezebel to tear down the altars
of the Lord and build altars to Baal.
Jezebel had the prophets of the Lord killed and it
seemed there was no one left, but the prophet Elijah.
Jezebel had it out for Elijah
and he was running and hiding.
Elijah came to the place where he prayed…
He came to a broom
tree, sat down under
it and prayed that he
might die.
"I have had
enough, LORD," he said.
"Take my life; I
am no better than my ancestors."
1 Kings 19:4
This is an amazing time of prayer
you can read about in 1 Kings 19.
In the end, the voice of the Lord said to Him…
"What are you
doing here, Elijah?"
1 Kings 19:13
Elijah had come to his breaking
point, a point of hopelessness.
He had had it…
His world was so bad
he did
not want to live there anymore.
More and more I hear Christians wanting
the Lord to come back and take them out
of the world and into heaven…
A cry for God to
rapture His Church.
Elijah realized Israel did not get into
this place of godlessness overnight.
The people of God allowed the slow
erosion of their faith and now Elijah
was giving up just like his ancestors.
God did not answer Elijah’s request to die.
What God says was…
"What are you doing here, Elijah?"
In 1 Kings 19:14, Elijah says in his defense…
I am the only one
left, and now
they are trying to
kill me too.
1 Kings 19:14
Then God says…
"Go back the way
you came”
1 Kings 19:15
Yet I reserve seven
thousand in Israel —
all whose knees have
not bowed down to Baal
and all whose mouths
have not kissed him."
1 Kings 19:18
There were two silent groups…
The ancestors and the seven thousand.
American was founded as a
nation for freedom of religion.
Over the centuries there
have been a silent majority.
As I look at our nation today, the
political hatred, the riots in the streets…
The minority groups are being
very vocal, who detest Christians.
I have asked myself the question,
why has the majority been silent?
The silent majority has been busy building
strong families and a strong America.
We have been busy working day in and
day out to provide for our families.
And providing services for
others in our communities.
We have tried to make America a
better place for us and our families.
It has taken a lot of work for us to build
a strong America and strong families.
We have built hospitals, schools,
fed the poor, we have been
faithfully doing Matthew 25:35-36.
As we have been building the Kingdom of God…
At the bases of America’s foundation,
there are those who
have been fighting
against America’s founding values.
Much argument has been made concerning
the separation of Church and State.
The foundation of this statement was to
protect the Church from the State…
But it has been
turned around to silence
the Church in political matters.
Which is the opposite of America’s foundation.
God said to Elijah…
"What are you
doing here, Elijah?"
"Go back the way
you came”
While the silent majority has been
fighting for America (founding values)…
A vocal minority has been fighting
against America (founding
values).
There are many good reasons we
have been silent doing good works.
Some of us in making a better home
and a better America have gotten too
busy to build our faith…
And our lives have less of God than before.
We have gotten too busy to pray,
attend church,
share Christ and make disciples.
Others of us,
who have not bowed our
Knee to Baal,
have gone into hiding like Elijah.
I am not saying we should go
to the street and protest and riot.
But I do believe God is saying to all of us…
"What are you
doing here?"
"Go back the way
you came”
Get out of this place of hopelessness.
Go back to proclaiming the Good News
of Jesus Christ and making disciples.
Jesus said about John the Baptist,
that he was the Elijah to come…
From the days of John
the Baptist until now,
the kingdom of heaven
has been forcefully advancing,
and forceful men lay
hold of it.
For all the Prophets
and the Law prophesied until John.
And if you are willing
to accept it,
he is the Elijah who
was to come.
He who has ears, let him hear.
Matthew
11:12-15
Jesus was very aware of
the strong resistance and said…
The kingdom of heaven has
been forcefully
advancing,
and forceful men lay
hold of it
What was John’s message?
A message preparing the way of the Lord.
Matthew 11:10
Though John was preaching in a wilderness…
His message was heard throughout
the land and even in the political areas.
I pray God will reveal to you
and I how to come out of silence.
To forcefully lay hold of the Kingdom.
To proclaim and prepare the way of the Lord.
Scripture Reading
Romans 11:1-12 NIV
11:1 I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I
am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. 2
God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don't you know what the
Scripture says in the passage about Elijah — how he appealed to God against
Israel: 3 "Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars;
I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me"? 4 And what was
God's answer to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have
not bowed the knee to Baal." 5 So
too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. 6 And if by grace,
then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
7 What then? What Israel sought so earnestly it did not
obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened, 8 as it is written:
"God gave them a spirit of stupor,
eyes so that they could not see
and ears so that they could not hear,
to this very day."
9 And David says:
"May their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them.
10 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,
and their backs be bent forever."
11 Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond
recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has
come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. 12 But if their transgression
means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how
much greater riches will their fullness bring!
