Sermon
on the Mountainside
Now
Life
is like a seesaw up and down, up and down
It
is the Kingdom Message of Jesus’ Sermon that teaches us
That
whatever is in our now, the moment we are in,
Whether
we are up or down, the Kingdom of God message is
We
know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have
been called according to his purpose. Romans
8:28
Get
the most out of your “Now” and never give up on God’s Hope
Now
“Now” is a descriptive word.
It is not describing the past.
“Now” does not describe the future.
“Now” describes a time, like 12
o’clock describes noon or midnight.
The time “Now” describes
is the moment you are in.
Time is described in three words…
Your Past – your history
Your Future – your hopes and dreams
Your Now – present condition
Your Now was in your Past
and Will be in your Future.
Now describes time.
Your Now becomes your
past and your future…
But the time
will always be “Now”.
Jesus in His Sermon uses this
word “Now” in
Luke 6:21…
Blessed
are you who hunger now,
for
you will be satisfied.
Blessed
are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
Although your “Now” is constant…
Your “Now” is
always changing.
Jesus’ words in Luke 6:21 bring to mind
the words of Solomon in Ecclesiastes 3…
There
is a time for everything,
and
a season for every activity under heaven:…
a
time to weep and a time to laugh,
a
time to mourn and a time to dance,….
Things in your “Now” will change.
Jesus is telling us to recognize
the blessing of your “Now”.
Being hungry and weeping are
not the things we want to be doing.
Yet it is appropriate at times to be
in a place of craving and mourning.
It is not always appropriate to laugh.
Laughter can be a good medicine…
But it can
also be a mockery.
Laughter is many times used to make
light of something, to reduce its importance.
Solomon goes on to say in Ecclesiastes 7:2-4…
It
is better to go to a house of mourning
than
to go to a house of feasting,
for
death is the destiny of every man;
the
living should take this to heart.
Sorrow
is better than laughter,
because
a sad face is good for the heart.
The
heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
but
the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.
It is in the times of hunger and
mourning that we take a hard look
at what is important in life.
The seriousness of those “Now” moments
have an
ability to teach us wisdom.
The blessing of hungering and
weeping is gaining eternal wisdom.
Jesus also wants you and I in those
Now moments of not being satisfied
and laughing, to know that there is “Hope”.
Jesus and Solomon both speak
of the contrast or opposites in life.
Life is like a seesaw up
and down, up and down.
It is the Kingdom Message of Jesus’ Sermon
that teaches us that whatever is in our Now…
Whether we are up or down
the Kingdom
of God message is…
We
know that in all things God works for
the
good of those who love him,
who
have been called according to his purpose.
