Sermon on the Mountainside Who’s Hungry?

Sermon on the Mountainside
Who’s Hungry?

Food Satisfies
It satisfies our cravings and our needs
This is the picture Jesus is trying to get into our minds
When He says
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Luke 6:21
Eating is not a once in a life time thing
Eating is something you do throughout the day
And we do it to be satisfied
Your spirit has an appetite, a hunger, a craving that needs to be satisfied

Who’s Hungry?

Let’s talk food.

What is your favorite food?

I will bet you can’t just name one.

Cooking shows have become
popular because we love to eat.

How many times a week do you eat out?

How much of your budget is spent
on restaurants and grocery stores?

You are probably thinking of your
favorite snack or go to food right now.

When God made our taste buds
and the ability to smell and see…

He must have made them for us to enjoy food.

Whether you eat 3 meals a day or 6 meals a day…

You and I don’t go long without food.

I try to tell myself food is for fuel not
for pleasure, but food is so pleasurable.

There is a little or maybe a big voice
that seems to be talking all the time saying…

 “I am hungry”

Whether it is hunger, craving,
or being famished, we want food.

Beyond all the flavors, textures, colors…

Beyond the salt and pepper,
the sweet and bitter,
the spices and aromas…

Food satisfies.

It satisfies our cravings and our needs.

This is the picture Jesus is
trying to get into our minds
when He says…

Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.
Luke 6:21

Eating is not a once in a life time thing.

Eating is something you do throughout the day.

And we do it to be satisfied.

Your spirit has an appetite, a hunger,
a craving that needs to be satisfied.

Jesus says those who hunger will be satisfied.

With hunger, we have to realize there are
good and bad ways to satisfy our hunger.

Jesus said…

"I have food to eat that you know nothing about."
John 4:32

My food is to do the will of the Father
John 4:34

In our hunger, we need to be sure we
are not looking for satisfaction for the
moment without a view of the future.

Just because you are hungry…

Does not mean you don’t watch what you eat.

Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:12-14…

"Everything is permissible for me"-but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"-but I will not be mastered by anything. "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food "-but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

Our hunger must be
controlled with a proper diet.

When we hunger for Spiritual food, it
will create a proper diet for natural things.

Healthy eating consist of…

What you eat.

It also consist of proper eating habits…

Maintaining regular schedule.

It is not good to go to sleep on a full stomach.

Man shall not live on bread alone
but by every word from God.
 Deuteronomy 8:3: Matthew 4:4 & Luke 4:4

Don’t read or listen to
God’s Word and go to sleep.

Use the energy of God’s
food to do positive things.

When you eat, take small bits.

God’s Word, like food, needs to be digested.

The digesting of food is a process that
starts with the size on your fork to
the chewing and working of the stomach.

You can over work your body by
eating too fast or too much at a time.

A wise parent said to his kids once it leaves
your mouth you can’t taste it any more.

Make sure you savor the Words of God.

Every word is powerful and full of truth.

Enjoy small bits of God’s Word and don’t
over eat and not digest what you read…

Mediation

Psalms 1:2 says meditating day and
night on God’s Word will bring prosperity.

Mediation is like worrying, it is
something you do over and over again…

You can’t get it off your mind.

If you can worry, you can meditate on God’s Word.

So chew God’s Word…

Don’t swallow until you have broken
it down for your stomach to handle
and you have enjoyed all the flavor.

Jesus in His sermon tells us…

Blessing comes from begging like a
poor man or hungering like we are starving.

If you have a strong desire…

 You will receive the blessings
of the Kingdom of Heaven.
