Fight for Your Family Songs of Joy

Fight for Your Family
Songs of Joy

After the wall was built Nehemiah appointed singers
How will you bring singing and music to your family?
Songs make deep impressions upon us
There are songs I was taught as a little child to this day I find myself singing
Songs that remind me of the glory of the Lord
The things God has done for me
Songs that lift my spirit
When all that happens my hands raise to heaven in thanks giving
To our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
Because He has done great things
Fill your home, fill your boarders with songs

Songs of Joy

Walls need to be protected.

The Book of Nehemiah does not
stop with the building of the wall…

After the wall had been rebuilt and I
had set the doors in place,
the gatekeepers and the singers and
the Levites were appointed.
Nehemiah 7:1

There were Gatekeepers…

These were the ones who made sure the gates were
keep closed when darkness covered the land.

It was not till the sun was hot
that they opened the gates.
 Nehemiah 7:3

I find it very interesting that there
are two other positions mentioned…

Singers and Levites

Singing and music has
always been valuable to life.

Imagine a world with no music, no singing.

How many radio stations would be left?

How many commercials?

How many movies and shows
would have a silent background?

God intended for us to sing...

…be filled with the Spirit.
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,
always giving thanks to God the Father for everything,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:18-20

Psalms 98, like many Psalms, encourages
us to sing and make music…

Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;…
4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,…
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
let the mountains sing together for joy;
9 let them sing before the LORD,
for he comes to judge the earth.

From the ends of the earth there is to be singing
and the reason is God’s Glory fills the earth…

From the ends of the earth we hear singing:
"Glory to the Righteous One."
Isaiah 24:16

God’s intent for us is to have an
everlasting joy that will bring us to singing…

They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
Isaiah 35:10

Paul and Silas demonstrated singing after being
beaten and put in prison, their joy was unstoppable.
Acts 16:25

To fight for your family is to
fight for their joy and singing.

We all know all music and singing does
not bring about the Glory of the Lord.

Just like a coin with two
sides, so is music and singing.

God not only wants you to build a
wall of protection around your family…

But to fill those boarders with singing
and music that proclaims the glory
God desires you to have within those walls.

What are you listening to?

 What songs are you singing?

It is worth repeating…

Speak to one another with psalms,
hymns and spiritual songs.
Ephesians5:19

Teach your family to put on the garment
of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
Isaiah 61

After the wall was built,
 Nehemiah appointed singers.

Scripture Reading

Nehemiah 7:1-5 NIV

7:1 After the wall had been rebuilt and I had set the doors in place, the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were appointed. 2 I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah the commander of the citadel, because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most men do. 3 I said to them, "The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own houses."

4 Now the city was large and spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had not yet been rebuilt. 5 So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families. I found the genealogical record of those who had been the first to return.
