Fight for Your Family
Commitment
Nehemiah with all the
attacks and hopelessness
Stayed committed to
rebuilding the wall
Nehemiah did not give
up
He dealt with the
rubble of the old wall and rebuilt the new wall
God had frustrated
the plan to stop the work
When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot and that God
had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to his own work. Nehemiah 4:15
Nehemiah 6:15 gives
us some encouraging words to those who want
To rebuild the wall
of protection around the family
So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two
days. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were
afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had
been done with the help of our God. Nehemiah 6:15-16
It may not be 52 days
for you to rebuild the wall around your family
But one thing is for
sure God is there to help you rebuild
Stay committed, fear
not, the family, your family is worth it!
Commitment
If you are a grandparent you have
seen a lot of changes in your life time.
Fifty years ago, in 1960, 73 percent of children lived in a
household
with two parents who were both in their first marriage.
Today, however,
families come in many forms. Just 46 percent of children today live in the type
of family household that was typical in the 1970s. The rest live in
single-parent households, or with parents who are living together but not
married. Some live with two parents who have previously been married and bring
with them children from those prior relationships.
Changes over the last 50 years shows us the
world around us has changed the definition of family.
The core of family 60 years ago was
commitment and keeping that commitment.
Commitment is based on values
and the greatest value is love.
It was not just the young
people who have changed.
Grandparents have changed…
Co-habituating
together, verses
commitment to marriage, is very high.
Commitment is foundation to family.
Over the last 50 years, quitting because it
seems easier or because it gives freedom
to explore personal desire, has increased.
You can’t have a healthy
family without commitment.
Nehemiah remembered the
wall that protected the city.
It was a proud fortress and a principle
line of defense from enemy attack.
Seeing the changes over the years,
seeing the walls lay in ruin made everyone
in the city vulnerable, no one was safe…
Not the children the parents or grandparents.
Not the singles, the women,
the men, no one was safe.
Nehemiah did not accept the
decayed condition of the wall.
The rebuilding of the temple, the glory of the city,
would not last
without the wall of protection.
It seemed helpless as the world
around them made threats to stop them.
Rebuilding the wall was claimed impossible.
Nehemiah 4:1-3…
When Sanballat heard
that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He
ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of
Samaria, he said, "What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore
their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they
bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble — burned as they
are?"
Tobiah the Ammonite,
who was at his side, said, "What they are building — if even a fox climbed
up on it, he would break down their wall of stones!"
We see as we continue to read…
Meanwhile, the people
in Judah said,
"The strength of
the laborers is giving out,
and there is so much
rubble that we cannot rebuild the wall."
Nehemiah 4:10
Discouragement is one of the
biggest threats to commitment.
If you are a grandparent who
remembers growing up in a good family…
If you remember how much better life
was 50 to 60 years ago for family life…
If you are going through
a struggle in your family….
If you feel like your family walls are in ruin…
You are feeling hopeless to ever see
your family back together or a protective
wall for family as God designed it…
Than remember this…
Nehemiah with all the attacks and hopelessness
stayed committed to rebuilding the wall.
Nehemiah did not give up.
He dealt with the rubble of the
old wall and rebuilt the new wall.
God had frustrated the plan to stop the work.
When our enemies heard
that we were
aware of their plot
and that God had frustrated it,
we all returned to the
wall, each to his own work.
Nehemiah 4:15
Nehemiah 6:15 gives us some encouraging
words to those who want to rebuild the
wall of protection around the family.
So the wall was
completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days.
When all our enemies
heard about this,
all the surrounding
nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence,
because they realized
that this work had been done with the help of our God.
Nehemiah 6:15-16
It may not be 52 days for you to
rebuild the wall around your family.
But one thing is for sure…
God is there to help you rebuild.
Stay committed, fear
not,
the family, your family is worth it!
Scripture Reading
Nehemiah 4:12-15
12 Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten
times over,
"Wherever you turn, they will attack us."
13 Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the
lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with
their swords, spears and bows. 14 After I looked things over, I stood up and
said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be
afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your
brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes."
15 When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot
and that God had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to his own
work.
