Walking in the Truth
Shades of Truth
John in his second and third letters says…
He finds great joy to find people “walking in the truth”.
We have all heard the phrase “living a lie”.
Living a lie is the opposite of walking in the truth.
It seems so black and white until
you add a little word called…
“Deception”
If you have ever wanted to paint a wall,
you probably looked at a paint chart.
If you wanted a white wall, you would see
the first paint sample would be pure white.
The next sample would have a “tint” added.
When we painted the walls in our house,
we wanted “white” because we wanted
the rooms to be bright and full of light.
As we looked at the paint charts, we saw
a number of samples we would call “white”.
The first sample a true “white” did not appeal to us.
We realizes pure white would show
every finger print and speck of dirt.
We would have to clean the walls every day
or repaint often if we painted pure white.
As we looked at the
chart, we saw wedding
white, antique white, ivory and so on.
These shades of white became more acceptable
to us because they would not show the dirt as much.
I am amazed at how many shades of white there are.
As you add tint, at what point
do you say that is not white?
There are some of us who love color.
I like a room that is hunter’s green or a burgundy.
A burgundy room with a white door.
Or, a hunter’s green room with a wide
white boarder mat around the picture in
a picture frame hanging on the walls.
Very few people paint their walls black.
Just like very few people paint their walls true white.
We like to have some tint to hid the dirt and finger prints.
Most people would look at the walls
in our house and say they are white.
Even though there is a tint in the paint it
is still very acceptable to call them white.
The walls of our homes where we live are very
much a reflection of how we walk out our lives.
At what point do we stop calling truth, truth?
How much tint is acceptable?
How off white do we get till we stop calling it white?
John reminds us that there is no greater joy
than seeing a life walking in the truth.
It is not easy to walk in the truth because we like the
tints.
We like to shade the truth.
I have been in a home where everything is white
and the shoes I walk in had to come off and every-
thing I did in that room made me feel uncomfortable.
It was not the white that made me feel uncomfortable
it was the way I wanted to live.
How about you?
What is the shade of truth you are walking in?
Be careful or you might find you are living in a little
“white lie”.
Scripture Reading
2 John 3-7
3 Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus
Christ, the Father's Son, will be with us in truth and love.
4 It has given me
great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the
Father commanded us. 5 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new
command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.
6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have
heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
7 Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as
coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the
deceiver and the antichrist.
