Marriage Remodeling
No house is complete unless it becomes a home.
When Sandy and I got married,
we had very little to work with.
We managed to get a mobile home.
It was older and had a bullet hole in the wall.
As our family grew, we needed more space.
We bought our first house.
Over the years we remodeled it, but when our son Marty
was born we realized we needed more space again.
There are times in marriage we
need to move from where we are.
A fresh start – a new environment.
I have a nephew in Florida and
his marriage was falling apart.
The words of a song “Praise You In This Storm,”
by the Christian group Casting Crowns,
brought the couple together to
work out their challenges.
Their lives and careers were going
in two different directions.
They got involved in a marriage
program.
He ran a restaurant and she was in
marketing.
He sized the restaurant, and she used her
marketing skills to build the new adventure.
Now they are happily working
together.

Recently, I have been remodeling
an older home.
One of the things I realized is
what we
loved in the 60s most of us don’t
love now.
Remember when avocado was in?
I remember when painting wood was
unheard of
but now it is the first thing we want to paint.
We remodel our houses for more space, because
things get old, dirty and somethings get out of date.
Marriages also need times of remodeling.
The space you live in is just not working.
The freshness of your walls and boundaries are dull.
And what you use to love is now out of date.
For the believer, things are to be changing.
Things are not to stay the same.
Things are to get better.
The scriptures put it this way…
“We, who with unveiled
faces all reflect
the Lord's glory, are
being transformed into
his likeness with
ever-increasing glory…”
The transformation of life is to never stop.
The glory of marriage is to increase as is the glory of a
life.
So the question is simple…
Is the glory increasing?
Or, is it time for some remodeling?
In my marriage counseling I encourage couples to
do something every year to increase their marriage.
Read a book on marriage, go to a marriage
seminar, do something to keep your focus
on making your marriage better.
Scripture Reading
2 Corinthians 3:16-18 NIV
16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken
away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there
is freedom. 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory,
are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes
from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
