Good and Evil
I saw a show call Searching
for Treasure.
They looked for Gold and Gems.
All the places they look for these precious treasures
looked like plain old dirt and rock.
Common everyday stuff!
But to the seeker, the one looking for
the treasure,
they saw something else.
Because they could see something else - they found it.
Treasures of great wealth!
Learn how to look past the common dirt.
If you will allow me,
I would like to take a different spin
on good and evil.
About 6-7 years ago our family had been hit
with some very challenging things.
I noticed that there was more and more
negative talk at our gatherings.
Focus seemed to be on the things
that were not working out.
It came to the place where we were looking
for the next thing to go wrong.
Faith turned into fear!
God was not pleased
and began to deal with our hearts.
We lost sight that God is a good God
and He gives good
gifts to His children.
It wasn’t easy to change our thinking
as Sarah’s pregnancy threaten her life
and the life of our new granddaughter, McKenzie.
Then there was the news
that Sandy had a brain tumor.
Our attitude started to change
right before McKenzie was born.
When McKenzie was born
and Sarah and the baby were fine
more hope filled our hearts.
God is a Good
God
and He gives Good Gifts to His children!
Here is the
spin,
Hebrews 5:14 speaks of those who have their
“senses exercised to discern good and
evil.”
Romans 12:21 says,
“don’t let evil or bad over come you
but over come evil with good.”
To a gold miner there is a lot of gold in the earth.
To the common folk there is a lot of dirt.
We have decided to believe
our God is a good God
and look for the gold!
For those who want dirt,
there is a lot out there
but it will keep you unhappy.
Learn to be a
seeker of God’s good
and give Him thanks
for every nugget you find.
You will be surprised there is a lot more
goodness of God than you think!
Don’t get focused on the dirt.
Scripture Reading
Romans 12:9-21 NIV
9 Love must be
sincere.
Hate what is evil;
cling to what is good.
10 Be devoted to one
another in brotherly love.
Honor one another
above yourselves.
11 Never be lacking
in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
12 Be joyful in hope,
patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13 Share with God's
people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who
persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those
who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
16 Live in harmony
with one another.
Do not be proud, but
be willing to associate with people of low position.
Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay
anyone evil for evil.
Be careful to do what
is right in the eyes of everybody.
18 If it is possible,
as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19 Do not take
revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written:
"It is mine to
avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
"If your enemy
is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty,
give him something to drink.
In doing this, you
will heap burning coals on his head."
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Hebrews 5:12-6:1 KJV
12 For when for the
time ye ought to be teachers,
ye have need that one teach you again which be
the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of
milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that
useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness:
for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that
are of full age,
even those who by reason of use have
their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
