Commissioned

40 Days After the Resurrection

Commissioned

As we journey between 40 days
of Jesus’ resurrection and His ascension;

We discover Jesus’ claim to all authority
and
Jesus has a commission for you and I!

Does what God want you to do make you nerves or are you unsure?

You are not alone the 11 disciples faced the same fears and doubts.

Each of the Gospels record Jesus
commissioning the disciples.

Matthew said the 11 went to Galilee
to a mountain where Jesus told them to go.

When they saw Jesus there,
they worshiped Him and some doubted.

This thing of doubt seems to be an inescapable hindrance
and here we find it mixed with faith and worship.

I think it is impossible to live a life free from doubt.

Even though there were disciples who doubted
they still went to the mountain to worship.

Jesus makes a bold statement,
“ALL authority in heaven
and on earth has been given unto Me.”

It is with that authority that He makes the next statement,
“GO” make disciples.

Many have thought this to mean make converts
but this would come up short of what Jesus said.

A disciple is a disciplined learner.

A disciple starts with the commitment to being baptized;
“spiritual experience that makes a public statement
of identifying with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.”

These disciples were to be taught to do everything Jesus commanded.

Jesus makes a promise to all disciples
that He will be with them till He comes again - the very end.

You and I can count on Jesus
being with us in the same way
He was with the 11 disciples.

Yes, there were times when they doubted
but they did “Go” and that is why you and I
have this wonderful message of hope.

It is now your turn and mine
to teach others and make disciples
but we will have to overcome doubt.

How about you?

Where does God want you to GO?

What does He want you to DO?

What doubts do you have to overcome
in order to GO and DO what God have for you?

Scripture Reading

Matthew 28:16-20 NIV

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
