Matthew Authority

Matthew

Authority

Description: Matthew 28:18-20 | West Lawn United Methodist Church

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. Matthew 7:28-29

No Kingdom will stand without AUTHORITY

The crowds who followed Jesus recognized His Authority

For the Kingdom of God to be established in our lives

Or, the Kingdom manifested on earth

We must, like the crowds who heard His teaching, be amazed at His teaching

We must recognize His authority is fulfillment

Of the Old Testament instruction to His people

We must recognize man does not live by bread alone

But by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God

Kingdom Life happens when we submit to the Word of God

Jesus Christ and His Word is the final authority for Kingdom of Heaven Life

In chapters 8-10, we will see the Kingdom of Heaven come with power

Because people received His authority and submitted to Him as LORD

There is no provision you need that has not already been set aside for you

For your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:8

The authority of Jesus Christ has overcome evil and the devil

Sickness and pain

His authority makes your provision

Matthew

Authority

Chapters 3-7 The Kingdom of Heaven is announced

Jesus after being led by the Spirit

into the wilderness,

where He was tempted by the devil,

 begins to preach the Kingdom…

From that time on Jesus began to preach,

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

Matthew 4:17

Chapter 3, John the Baptist says…

Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven in near

And Chapter 3 ends with Jesus’ baptism

by John and the Father’s voice from Heaven…

And a voice from heaven said,

"This is my Son, whom I love;

with him I am well pleased."

Matthew 3:17

Chapter 4, Jesus confronts evil

and is tested by the devil.

At the end of the testing,

Jesus begins to preach the Kingdom…

From that time on Jesus began to preach,

"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

Matthew 4:17

Starting in Matthew 4:18, we see Jesus

calling people to follow Him

and we see signs of Jesus rescuing people

as a sign of the Good News of the Kingdom.

People are healed of various diseases,

pain, delivered from demons.

In the last verse of Chapter 4, we read…

Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem,

Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

Matthew 4:25

Chapters 5-7, Jesus teaches these followers.

His teaching is all about what

the Kingdom of Heaven is like…

Its blessings and challenges.

The Kingdom of Heaven differences

from what they have heard.

Chapter 6, Jesus teaches His followers how to pray.

The instruction is on bringing God’s will

and the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

At the end of these chapters on

Kingdom instruction and living…

We read in the last 2 verses of Matthew 7…

When Jesus had finished saying these things,

the crowds were amazed at his teaching,

because he taught as one who had authority,

and not as their teachers of the law.

Matthew 7:28-29

No Kingdom will stand without AUTHORITY.

The crowds who followed Jesus

recognized His Authority.

For the Kingdom of God to be

established in our lives,

or, the Kingdom manifested on earth…

We must, like the crowds who heard His teaching,

 be amazed at His teaching.

We must recognize His authority is fulfillment

of the Old Testament instruction to His people.

We must recognize man does not live by bread alone…

But by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Kingdom Life happens when we submit to the Word of God.

Jesus Christ and His Word are the final authority

for Kingdom of Heaven Life.

In chapters 8-10, we will see the Kingdom of Heaven

come with power because…

 People received His authority

and submitted to Him as LORD.

Many hard-working people have found themselves

unemployed due to no fault of their own.

The government has made provision for those people

to give them assistance until they get back to work.

If one of those hard-working persons

did not know what the government has done for them,

they would struggle having no income.

The same is true in the Kingdom of Heaven

when we know God’s Word and make Jesus Lord…

We understand how to obtain the provision we need.

There is no provision you need that has not

already been set aside for you…

For your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

Matthew 6:8

The authority of Jesus Christ has overcome evil and the devil…

Sickness and pain.

His authority makes your provision.

This is a spoiler alert at the end of the Book…

We will see Jesus gives us authority and the power

to go into all the world as He did.
