James
Slander and the Judge
Slander only looks to destroy by false statements
For the student of Christ we know only the truth sets us free John 8:31,32
God’s law is able to save
This is always God’s desire for the perfect law of freedom
To show us how to be saved
We are to prove all things and hold on to the good 1 Thessalonians 5:21
We will judge the world and angels 1 Corinthians 6:2-3
You and I cannot read the Bible without seeing judgments
We are not to use false statements to condemn others, especially others in the faith
This is want the world does
We are to judge what is right and wrong by God’s Word
With the desire to see others set free, not condemned
"As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. John 12:47-48
So James asks who are you to judge your neighbor?
So do you judge to save or condemn?
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. James 4:12
Don’t slander or approve of it no matter how popular it is in the world
Slander and the Judge
James says…
Don't you know that friendship with the
world is hatred toward God?
Anyone who chooses to be a friend of
the world becomes an enemy of God.
James 4:4
Romans 1 gives us a picture of the
world and God’s wrath against it.
How the world is without
excuse for rejecting God.
Romans 1:28-32 concludes…
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
The world loves gossip and slander.
Verse 32 says…
Those who do these things deserve death.
And the final words say…
They not only continue to do these very things
but also approve of those who practice them.
The world has determined to become
its own lawgiver and judge.
James who warns us about being friends of the
world and the bridling of the tongue says…
Brothers, do not slander one another.
Anyone who speaks against his brother or
judges him speaks against the law and judges it.
Do not slander.
Slander…
The action or crime of making a false spoken
statement damaging to a person's reputation.
Slander is a way of life in the world.
The media takes segments of a person’s words
and makes something out of it that were never
said to make the person look evil.
Politicians who make and uphold the laws of the
land are quick to slander those on opposite sides.
If you have spent any time on
Facebook, Twitter or Instagram…
You have seen the use of slander
to make others look evil.
We not only slander…
We approve of those who practice it.
If you deny God,
you can become the lawgiver and judge.
But James says to the believer…
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge,
the One who is able to save and destroy.
James 4:12
Believers are to judge based on God’s Word, His Law.
In James 1:25 James says, the perfect law gives freedom.
Slander only looks to destroy by false statements.
For the student of Christ we know
only the truth sets us free.
John 8:31,32
God’s law is able to save.
This is always God’s desire for the perfect law
of freedom to show us how to be saved.
We are to prove all things and hold on to the good.
1 Thessalonians 5:21
We will judge the world and angels.
1 Corinthians 6:2-3

We are not to use false statements to condemn
others, especially others in the faith.
This is want the world does.
We are to judge what is right and wrong

James 4:12

Scripture Reading
James 4:11-12 NIV
11 Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you — who are you to judge your neighbor?
