The
Trainer
Wouldn’t it be nice
to have your own personal trainer?
Someone who could help you
with the things you can’t see
and push you
to your maximum achievement.
The other day I meet
a very interesting 6 year old boy.
He told me he played the harmonica
and asked me if I would like to hear him.
I said, “Yes”
–
and he pulled a harmonica out of his pocket
and began to run his lips over the reeds.
I asked him how long
he had played the harmonica;
and he said a month
and was now a professional.
I then ask how long did it take
to learn to play the harmonica;
and he said, “Two
hours”.
To become good at something,
like playing an instrument,
takes a lot of disciplined time.
Even with God-given gifting
it takes work to develop it.
To become good at one thing,
you have to let go of other things.
You have to be set apart,
or as the Bible says, sanctified.
Most professionals have a trainer –
someone who can see what they can’t
and pushes them when they want to quit.
This 6 year old boy was having
a lot of fun with the harmonica;
but if he were to become a true professional,
it would take some work and training.
In the closing words to the Thessalonians,
Paul talks about being set apart or sanctified.
God has called you and I into training;
training
which involves our spirit, soul and body;
a training period that lasts till the coming of
Christ.
Many of us could have excelled in a certain area,
if we only had a trainer.
Life at the time of the training means sacrifice,
but later the
things we found difficult to handle
now become easy and the notes flow together.
God starts the training with the inner person.
He is constantly working on our thoughts and
emotions.
The body is also important to God –
He cares that you are healthy.
So trust the
Trainer!
Let Him sanctify you spirit, soul, and body –
So that you might become blameless.
Scripture
Reading
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 NIV
23 May God himself,
the God of peace,
sanctify you through and through.
May your whole spirit, soul and body
be kept blameless
at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 The one who calls you
is faithful
and he will do it.
