Idle Time

Idle Time

Ever feel like people
have nothing better to do
with their time?

Idle hands make busybodies;
busybodies…meddlers, gossips.

You don’t have to be unemployed
to be a busybody.

Of all the great temptations afflicting
the modern church,
heresies, faithlessness,
idolatry, false worship;
being a busybody seems to be a minor sin.

After all, everybody does it!

It is tough for us to mind our own business
and not meddle in the affairs of others.

God doesn’t take
as light of view
as we do.

1 Peter 4:15 puts the sin
of being a meddler
in the same light
as murderer, thief, or evil doer.

It is the sin that’s destructive power
can rip families apart,
destroy relationships,
and dived and embitter
whole communities.

It stems from the original sin;
Adam wanted to be like God.

He wanted to have the knowledge
of good and evil.

He meddled in the affairs of God –
wanting to be like God.

The original sin was more than
stealing a piece of fruit…
or breaking a rule.

Adam blasphemed the nature of God
by trying to take to himself
the attributes of God.

He was minding God’s business;
thinking he could do a better job.

We have inherited that trait.

We often think we can do a better job
and people should do things our way.

Use your time wisely…

Mind your own business –
When it is none of your business!

 Scripture Reading

2 Thessalonians 3:11-15 NIV

11 We hear that some among you are idle.
They are not busy;
they are busybodies.
12 Such people we command
and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ
to settle down
and earn the bread they eat.
13 And as for you, brothers,
never tire of doing what is right.

14 If anyone does not obey
our instruction in this letter,
take special note of him.
Do not associate with him,
in order that he may feel ashamed.
15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy,
but warn him as a brother.
