Being
Successful
Capturing
the Right Selfie
We live in a day where we love images
and capture
them with selfies.
So maybe our likeness and image
is more important than ever.
Maybe we should give more thought to capturing the
image
and likeness of God in whom we were made.
Selfies… The world is addicted to them.
We love to take pictures of our self.
Young and old love to make all kinds of faces
and then look at their images on their phone.
Most of the images are meant to
show we are having a good time.
But what else do those images say to others?
The Bible gives us a number of scriptures about
selfies.
So
God created man in his own image,
in
the image of God he created him;
male
and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27
As
for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness;
when
I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.
Psalm 17:15
And
we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from
one degree of glory
to
another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18
And
to put on the new self, created after the likeness
of
God in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:24
For
those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image
of
his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Romans 8:29
And
have put on the new self, which is being renewed
in
knowledge after the image of its creator.
Colossians 3:10
With
it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we
curse
people who are made in the likeness of God.
James 3:9
See
what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we
should
be called children of God; and so we are. The reason
why
the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Beloved,
we are God's children now, and what we will be has
not
yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall
be
like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone
who
thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
1 John 3:1-3
Your image or likeness is important to your success
in life.
Every expression you make, the clothes you wear,
the actions you take, all have a likeness to
something.
When people see you they will associate
you with an image or a likeness.
I must have an image of a helper.
On many occasions I have had people come
to me in a store and ask if I worked there.
The other day the name of a girl I
went to high school with came up.
She was a very loose girl with the guys.
50 years later the mention of her name brings
up the image of a loose girl with the guys.
Images stick with us.
In sales, the first thing you learn is the
first impression is the most important.
You can preach about the evils of profiling.
I would agree we should not judge
based on the color of skin that is evil.
Our psychological and behavioral characteristics
will be assessed by others and associated with those
who have similar characteristics and color of skin
should have nothing to do with it.
In the 60’s, I wanted a leather jacket and my dad
said that would make me look like a Hells Angel.
I did not want to have the image of a Hells Angel
but being a skinny guy I did want to
look tough so bullies did not pick on me.
We live in a day where we love images
and capture them with selfies.
So maybe our likeness and image is more important
than ever.
Maybe we should give more thought to capturing
the image and likeness of God in whom we were made.
Scripture
Reading
Genesis 1:26-28
God spoke: “Let us make human
beings in our image, make them
reflecting our nature
So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea,
the birds in the air, the cattle,
And, yes, Earth itself,
and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
God created human beings;
he created them godlike,
Reflecting God’s nature.
He created them male and female.
God blessed them:
“Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!
Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air,
for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”
