Valentine Memories
One day when my granddaughter, Kylii
was young she came to me before school
to show me her Valentine’s Box.
I am sure you remember
making those boxes for school.
Kylii and her Aunt Sarah worked together
on this box, shaped like a boat.
Using an old Gold Fish Cracker container,
they transformed it into a love boat.
As I looked in the hole on the top of the boat,
I asked Kylii if it is going to be big enough.
She said, Yes, but
in my heart I could not
stand the thought that this box could ever hold
the amount of love I wanted her to have in life.
When I was a boy in school,
the Valentine’s Box was very important to me.
I read every card and I counted them
to see how many friends I had.
I remember trying to buy the cards
I was to give my
friends and
feeling they were never good enough.
In class, we were given a list
of all the names of each person
in the class so everyone got a card.
This was a good idea – but in life love is a choice.
Every day we have the choice of giving a card
and what we will write on it.
When I worked at Jeep,
I would often find cards in my lunch box;
cards from my wife and children.
Those notes reminded me of why I went to work,
so I could support those I love.
Love is a powerful motivator…
it gives us energy which increases the quality of life.
Valentine’s Day will be here soon
and then it will be over for this year,
but the sharing of love
should be an everyday occurrence.
You don’t have to wait till next year
when the Valentine’s Box comes out…
You can put your Valentine’s
in a lunch box or email box any day.
You don’t even need a box and
it does not have to be given only
to people you know.
Next time you are in line at the coffee shop,
pay for a stranger’s coffee –
As a reminder, Christ loved you
when you did not know Him!
Scripture Reading
1 John
4:9-12 NIV
9 This is
how God showed his love among us:
He sent his
one and only Son into the world
that we
might live through him.
10 This is
love: not that we loved God,
but that he
loved us and sent his Son
as an
atoning sacrifice for our sins.
11 Dear
friends, since God so loved us,
we also
ought to love one another.
