Matthew Resurrection of the Dead

Matthew

Resurrection of the Dead

Description: I AM the Resurrection and the Life

The Sadducees did not believe in a resurrection of the dead

So many people believe that when you die life is over, death is the end

This type of thinking focuses on “Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow you die”

This is why Jesus says to the Sadducees

You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. Matthew 22:29

'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living." Matthew 22:32

Jesus proved there was a resurrection of the dead,

Three days after His death on the cross

Because there is a resurrection of the dead, there is life after death

You and I can believe in the Kingdom of Heaven

There is more than this life

There is a resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment

Elementary teaching about Christ

Don’t be like the Sadducees who did not know the Scriptures or the power of God

Read Hebrews 6:1-2 to see if you understand the foundational teachings

So you can go on to maturity

Resurrection of the Dead

Hebrews 6 gives us a list of

elementary teachings about Christ

One of the basic foundational teachings…

Is the resurrection of the dead

Hebrews 6:1-2…

Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

Maturity of the believer starts

after one has a foundation in faith

 of these basic elementary teachings.

The Sadducees did not believe

in a resurrection of the dead.

So many people believe that when you die life is over,

death is the end.

This type of thinking focuses on…

“Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow you die”.

This is why Jesus says to the Sadducees…

You are in error

because you do not know the Scriptures

or the power of God.

Matthew 22:29

There are a lot of quotes…

 “Experts” on spiritual things,

both religious and non-religious.

Jesus is very clear…

If you don’t know the Scriptures

and the power of God…

You are in error”.

The Kingdom of God (Heaven) cannot be understood

without the elementary teaching of or about Christ.

To not take into consideration the Scriptures

and the power of God, is foolishness.

It is true you can get a lot of spiritual clues from nature.

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities

 — his eternal power and divine nature

 — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made,

so that men are without excuse.

Romans 1:20

Without a study of Scriptures…

The creation of the world and God’s divine nature

leaves us to our own imagination at best.

Despite the Sadducees believing there is no resurrection,

 Jesus does give this answer…

At the resurrection

people will neither marry nor be given in marriage;

they will be like the angels in heaven.

Matthew 22:30

To unpack this…

We would need to do a Scriptural study of angels,

but the point is not about marriage or angels…

The point is there a resurrection?

Most of us have heard, God is the “Great I Am”.

If you are not sure what this term is all about…

You will need to read what

God said to Moses in Exodus 3:6.

Then he said,

“I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham,

the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”

At this, Moses hid his face,

because he was afraid to look at God.

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were dead

and their bodies were in tombs at the time of Moses.

When God said to Moses…

“I am the God of your fathers,

the words “I am” are in the present tense.

God did not say “I was”

the God of your fathers…

 But “I am”.

This is why Jesus says…

'I am the God of Abraham,

the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?

He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

Matthew 22:32

We can come away from Jesus’ words

to the Sadducees with thoughts on

the Kingdom of Heaven concerning…

Marriage, and angels.

But the most important take way is

there is a resurrection of the dead.

There is a heavenly kingdom

where God lives and rules.

God said to Moses…

“I Am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Jesus said in John 14:11…

Believe me when I say that

I am in the Father and the Father is in me;

or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.

And in John 8:58…

"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered,

"before Abraham was born, I am!"

Jesus proved there is a resurrection of the dead…

Three days after His death on the cross.

Because there is a resurrection of the dead

there is life after death.

You and I can believe in the Kingdom of Heaven.

There is more than this life…

There is a resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment…

Elementary teaching about Christ.

Don’t be like the Sadducees…

Who did not know the Scriptures

or the power of God.

Read again Hebrews 6:1-3 to see if you understand

the foundational teaching…

So you can go on to maturity.

Scripture Reading

Matthew 22:23-33 NIV

23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24 "Teacher," they said, "Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him. 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?"

29 Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But about the resurrection of the dead — have you not read what God said to you, 32 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
