Matthew
Keys
This is why Jesus says
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Like my kids they have the keys to my kingdom but they do not own it
The keys I gave them lock and unlock many doors and opportunities
Some of those keys they hold require communicate with Mom or Dad
God’s will is that His kingdom come in earth as it is in Heaven Matthew 6:9
Holding a physical key is only part of locking and unlocking
The keys of Knowledge open the doors of endless possibilities for you
And those around you.
Prayer and the Word of God give us the understanding of the keys of Knowledge that can give you the authority and power to bind and lose things in earth and heaven
If your name is written in Heaven, you have the keys to open and close doors
Seek God for the ways to use those keys to the Kingdom of Heaven
Keys
I am a king of a small kingdom.
My kingdom sits on 4 acres of land.
My castle is my home where my rules apply.
I have installed locks to control who can enter my castle
and rooms within my castle.
I unlock my doors in the morning
and lock them at night.
Those who want to visit, knock for permission to enter.
I, and my queen, have many guests we welcome,
but they do not have keys to enter freely.
My children who are grown
have castles of their own…
I have given them keys to my Kingdom.
They have been given authority
to open and close doors in our castle.
They have been given this authority
because we trust them.
There are times our children have wanted
to use our kingdom for guests.
They asked us for permission where we granted it,
but there were limited access for their guests.
There are times when the kingdom needed attention
and we can ask our children to take care of
the need because they have a key.
Jesus says…
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:19
Let’s take a look at these Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.
In the context, we see our first clue to a lock…
I will build my church,
and the gates of Hades will not overcome it
Matthew 16:18
Hades is the grave where all who die go.
Jesus says Hades has a gate.
This is a one-way gate.
The wages of sin is death,
it is appointed unto a man once to die than the judgment.
Once you die there is no return.
But Jesus said…
I will build my church,
and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Jesus went through the gates of Hades and returned.
Jesus is greater than Hades.
He has the authority to unlock the Gates of Hades.
The Church are the people who have
their names written in heaven because…
Jesus has judged the righteous
and made them righteous through His blood.
…to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
Hebrews 12:23-24
The Church, God’s people, will not be held in Hades.
Jesus has the keys to Hades
and the authority over Hades.
I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!
And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
Revelation 1:18
Jesus holds the keys to Hades.
Jesus has the authority over Hades…
Over all those who have gone to the grave.
Abel, the first righteous person to die by the shedding of blood,
to the last righteous person of the church will be released to Heaven.
Every person who has ever died
and gone to the grave (Hades) will be judged.
There will be a dividing into two groups…
Those whose names are written in heaven or the Book of Life
and those who are not in the Book.
In Revelation 20:13-15, we see the end of Hades.
death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Those whose names are written in heaven will enjoy the New Heaven and earth
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Revelation 21:1-4
Jesus has the keys to Hades and Heaven.
All authority has been given to Him.
At the end of Matthew,
we see all the authority given to Jesus…
The keys He holds have been given to the Church.
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20
This is why Jesus says…
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Like my kids they have the keys
to my kingdom, but they do not own it.
The keys I gave them lock and unlock
many doors and opportunities.
Some of those keys they hold require
communicate with Mom or Dad.
God’s will is that…
His kingdom come in earth as it is in Heaven
Matthew 6:9
Holding a physical key is only part of locking and unlocking.
The keys of Knowledge open the doors of
endless possibilities for you and those around you.
Prayer and the Word of God give us
the understanding of the keys of Knowledge
that can give you the authority and power
to bind and lose things in earth and heaven.
If your name is written in Heaven,
you have the keys to open and close doors.
Seek God for the ways to use those
keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Scripture Reading
Matthew 16:13-28 NIV
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
14 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." 20 Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!"
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. 28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
