A Good Question and a Greater Question

A Good Question and a Greater Question

Good question

“What is the purpose or meaning of life?”

Greater or Better Question

“What questions do I need to ask myself

in order to answer the first question”

A Good Question and a Greater Question

Sandy and I have been blessed that our children

and their families come over after church each Sunday.

Before we eat lunch, the family gathers in the kitchen

and I share something short and then pray.

On one of those Sundays, I said…

I had a Good Question and a Better Question.

I got some looks from some of the grandchildren…

Like please don’t ask us a question.

Discerning their thoughts, I said…

“Don’t worry I won’t ask you to answer any questions.”

“These questions are for you to think

about and answer for yourself later.”

I said the Good Question is…

“What is the purpose or meaning of life?”

The second question is the Greater or Better Question…

“What questions do I need to ask

in order to answer the first question?”

That day we were celebrating two birthdays.

Being born is an amazing thing.

Every year is a gift.

The candles on the cake increase every year

and at some point we wonder how many

candles will be on the last birthday cake.

We only get one shot at life.

There are no do overs.

So what is the purpose or meaning of life?

You might have an evolutionary

answer or a Biblical answer.

Like to reproduce ourselves or to serve God.

But these answers only leave

us with more questions.

Defining life and its meaning is a

series of questions throughout our life.

These questions need some continuity.

So the “Good Question”…

What is the meaning or purpose of life

will open doors to the better.

What questions do I need to

answer the Good Question?

I hope you say the meaning of life focuses

on God, not some evolutionary idea.

Jesus said in John 10:10…

I have come that they may have life,

and have it to the full.

The Better Questions are…

What is this life and the fullness of life Jesus came to give?

So is your life just survival and meaningless?

Or, is your life thriving with purpose and

achievement of life now and forever?

Scripture Reading

John 10:10

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 20:30-31

31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Luke 12:23

23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.

John 1:3-5

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
