Stand
In the Gap
"The wall of righteousness guards a land."
It use to be that communities worked
together
to build a wall around their city.
When they did, all the homes were
protected.
Ezekiel’s word of the Lord says,
God is looking for someone to stand in the gap.
The New Living Translation says,
God was looking for someone who might
rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land.
Righteousness guards the land.
The wall of
righteousness seems to always need repair.
We seem to let things slide.
Maintenance on the wall
of righteousness is ongoing
and at times major sections need repair.
God is looking for those who are willing
to rebuild the wall
of righteousness.
He is wanting you and I to take interest
in others that are suffering the consequences
of a deteriorating righteous life.
God is looking for those who will
stand long side someone else to help them
see how to rebuild their life.
It takes time and strength to stand
with someone else who is not
doing as well as you.
We can make a difference
and we don’t have to get preachy.
Most of the time if you befriend someone,
they will valve your friendship in such a way
that they will respect your values
and their life will change.
I have people apologize to me
all the time for their language;
and I never said anything
about their tongue to them.
Standing with someone whose
wall of righteousness has fallen,
or never was properly built,
doesn’t have to be hard.
Maybe it would be a good idea
if we turned down our complaining volume
and see what kind of difference we can make.
God is looking for those who are willing
to stand in the
gap.
Let’s start by praying for others
and stand long
side them.
Who are you standing
with?
Are you filling the “gap”
with the “right”
things?
Your acts of
righteousness
will guard the land.
Scripture Reading
Ephesians 6:10-14 NIV
10 Finally, be strong
in the Lord
and in his mighty
power.
11 Put on the full
armor of God
so that you can take
your stand
against the devil's
schemes.
12 For our struggle
is not against flesh and blood,
but against the
rulers,
against the
authorities,
against the powers of
this dark world
and against the
spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly
realms.
13 Therefore put on
the full armor of God,
so that when the day
of evil comes,
you may be able to
stand your ground,
and after you have
done everything,
to stand.
14 Stand firm then
Ezekiel 22:30-31 NLT
30 "I looked for
someone who might
rebuild the wall of righteousness
that guards the land.
I searched for
someone to
stand in the gap in the wall
so I wouldn't have to
destroy the land,
but I found no one.
